Roscommon is leaving the Jackpine for the Highland. Word on the street is that Houghton Lake is planning to so the same.

Houghton lake board meeting minutes -- February 26.
Athletics, Joe Holloway – Holloway talked about considering leaving the Jack Pine Conference and moving to the Highland Conference. Holloway said he was approached by Highland and they would like Houghton Lake and Roscommon to consider joining them. Holloway said it looks like Roscommon is seriously thinking of leaving Jack Pine and moving to Highland. Teams in the Highland Conference are Beal City, Everett, Pine River, McBain, Lake City, Manton. Holloway said these districts are more comparable in size to Houghton Lake and may be a better fit. Highland would like to know by mid March 2018, with a final date of May 2018 if we are moving. It would be effective the 2019-20 school year. Holloway would like to have a couple of community nights to get parents input.

Is McBain Christian getting kicked out of the Highland, or would the Highland have nine schools in basketball (Marion was kicked out for all sports last year)? Roscommon and Houghton Lake would get the Highland up to eight football schools.

The article about Hillman hiring its new coach (http://www.thealpenanews.com/sports/loc ... l-program/) gives a new alignment for the eight-man football league in northern Michigan.
MCM North: Atlanta, AuGres-Sims, Charlton Heston, Hillman, Hale, Onaway, Pellston, Posen
MCM South: Bellaire, Central Lake/Ellsworth, Forest Area, Grand Traverse Academy, Onekama, Suttons Bay, Tri-Unity Christian

Mashhour and Chuck Silver, district coordinator of athletics, also talked about the three high schools leaving the Western Wayne athletic conference. Fordson and Dearborn High will join the Kensington Lake Conference and Edsel Ford will be part of the Downriver Conference.
Fordson might struggle in its new conference, Silver said. The high school was much larger than most of its competitors in the Western Wayne Conference.
Fordson also will need a new football field turf in the next few years. Turf fields have a 10- to 12-year lifecycle and Fordson is reaching that point, Mashhour said.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep has joined the Genesee Area Conference. Unsure if it's all sports or football only (they give the GAC nine football schools; four in the Red and five in the Blue): http://michigan-football.com/f/pontdame.htm

I was thinking the GAC would have one eight-team division for football.
