With the state finals in the books, it's time to see who will/should be good in 2018. Also, it will be interesting to see which new non-conference games are scheduled.

Three-fifths of the Lakes Eight have posted schedules.
Manistee: http://manisteehighschool.bigteams.com/ ... id/4301656 (open dates weeks 6 and 9; I did hear on another board that Cadillac (week 8) dropped them)
Muskegon Catholic: http://mcccrusaders.bigteams.com/main/t ... id/4284959 (open dates weeks 1 and 9)
Orchard View: http://orchardviewathletics.bigteams.co ... id/4295604 (open dates weeks 1 and 8)

Ludington doesn't post their schedule on BigTeams, but I did see that Inland Lakes (small Class C school near the Bridge) has scheduled them for week 1 in 2018 (IL is on BigTeams)

I've heard through the grapevine that Northpointe Christian is playing Manistee this coming fall as well.

Saw that Manistee has picked up both Calvin Christian and NorthPointe Christian in consecutive weeks to end the regular season.

Speaking of the O-K Silver, is Lee still in for 2018 or are they getting kicked out? I thought they would be kicked out because of their not having a girls basketball team each of the last three years despite being Class B, not to mention their lack of success in other sports.

As far as I know, they are not getting kicked out.  That's interesting that they haven't had a girls team in 3 years. I do think they still participate in enough sports to qualify in the OK conference.    As of late, besides getting better coaches in sports like football, they've really tried to build up the middle-school sports so that it carries on into the high school.  The last couple of middle-school football teams have been pretty good and the high school football team has made a huge push for their players to be in the weight room all year round.  Lee has a couple of the top guy sprinters in the state and their guys team is one of the conference favorites.

Manistee scheduled Perry in week two and Riverview Gabriel Richard in week six.  Overall a new and interesting schedule for the Chips.

Ludington has Vermontville Maple Valley in week two and Stockbridge in week eight.  Somebody's doing a good job finding games up there!!  These should be competitive games.

Speaking of OK Silver....Hopkins will play Ravenna in week one.

Whitehall no longer has BCHC for week nine but instead has Class A Dexter who has gone 0-9 last three seasons.

Fun fact about Manistee's schedule: They play four private schools in a row to end the season.

Ludington doesn't seem to be sandbagging as much as they have in recent years.

This might be the first time ever Manistee, Ludington, and Mason County Central are all playing each other in football in the same season.

How does Muskegon do in the first three games? With D2 champion De Le Salle in week 1. Former 2 time D2 champs MLK in week 2. And an always dangerous East Grand Rapids squad in week 3. After that it's a cake walk for the Big Reds, until their only real challenge in conference play, Mona Shores. I'll be honest, I'm a little nervous about the first 3 weeks. What do you think?

Should be typical Big Red team and I would expect them to compete in those first three games. Are they the favorite heading into the games? That is another question.  Against EGR I'd say Muskegon the favorite.  Maybe not against MLK and WDLS.

They should all be good games. I know that MLK and WDLS would love to get their first win over Muskegon, IN Muskegon. With La'Darius graduating I was a little apprehensive about the beginning of the season. But, with Martinez coming over from Muskegon Catholic Central, I'm not as nervous as I was. Plus, just about all of that college sized line is returning. I'm not saying they are going to win all 3. But, I'd be happy with 2 out of 3, and ecstatic with a sweep. The 2 east side schools are VERY good teams, however the Big Reds have only lost 5 games at home since 2004. Historic Hackley Stadium is a hard place to walk out of with a win. My advice to those coming over, when the game ends, stick around, and head into the tunnel. The band marches through, with only the drumline playing. There's not a single place that I've been to that does anything like that. Plus, you can cheer for your young men after the game.

Anyone word on who the new Lowell coach will be as Dean announced he's stepping down today to pursue his vodka business.  My friend is on boosters at Lowell and he said the main qualification they'll be looking for in the next coach is someone that will always talk about their home-grown talent to indirectly dis private schools.
