This thread will stay up to date with the rules we are using for the Bull City Blood Bowl League, starting in 2017.

Rulebooks
We will be using the official rules from the latest edition of the game. If you do not have a copy of the rulebook from the 2016 box set, you can use the Living Rulebook 6 PDF. It has nearly the same rules as book in the box, except where it is overwritten by a league book (see below). Also see the official Blood Bowl FAQ.

The Inaugural Blood Bowl Almanac is probably the most useful book you can buy; if you only buy one thing for this league, I would suggest that book. It has all the contents of Death Zone Seasons One and Two, all fully updated with errata and FAQ, as well as some extra optional rules. You can avoid a lot of printing PDFs and such by just buying this book.

If you don't own the Almanac, Death Zone: Season One is required. You will either need to own a copy of your own or share it with another player. Many of the rules in this book are completely new, and we are using them all, except where noted below. Please also see the errata.

Death Zone: Season Two is not required. We will be using some of the rules in it, but all of them are optional.

Teams
All teams in the Death Zone books are allowed. We will also allow teams from the Teams of Legend PDF. All of these teams are covered in the Almanac as well.

Game components
Our goal is to make this league as friendly and inviting to new players, players of previous editions, and everyone in-between. As such, no official components will be required. If you wish to use the board and other components from previous editions (or even ones you make yourself) you are more than welcome to do so! For boards, you must have a passing template that matches the size of the board or an appropriate substitute (such as this app). You may also use any miniatures you like, as long as you inform your opponent what each one represents.

If you do wish to use official components (they are very nice!) you don't necessarily have to buy the boxed set; miniatures, dice, and boards are all sold individually now, and you may use any of these. The only thing you'll have to borrow (or possibly buy online) is the templates; the throw-in and scatter templates are easy to make, but the range ruler will be a little tricky. Third-party range rulers (such as the ones made by Cog 'O' Two will be just fine as long as they're the correct size.

Special Play Cards
We will be using the Special Play cards from the 2016 box set. You may also use any other officially-released cards. If you do not have the box set, you can use Living Rulebook 6 (see link above) and a deck of ordinary playing cards using the conversion chart below. However, if you want to use any of the other decks you will need to buy or borrow the pack.

Rules changes/clarifications
On page 19 of Death Zone: Season One, it says that each team must play two competition games against each other team in their division over the course of a season. We often lower this number to one, depending on attendence. We plan to run season lengths assuming each player will average one competition game per week, and seasons would run far too long using the original rules.

Of the optional rules on page 63 of the Almanac (and page 29 of Death Zone: Season One), we will only be using Undersubscribed Divisions (and only if it is relevant). All other optional rules from that page are not being used.

We will also be using some Special Play Card Variants from pages 102 and 103 of the Almanac (also found in this PDF:https://19070-presscdn-0-68-pagely.netdna-s...Variants-v3.pdf)
We'll be using "Variant One - The Points System" as well as the "Variant Special Play Inducement" optional rule.

The "Settling down for a While" rule from page 64 of the Almanac (also found in Death Zone: Season Two) will NOT be used.

Opt-in Rules

Any of the following rules may be used on a game-by-game basis, and only if both coaches agree and at least one of them has a copy of the rule:

-Sponsorship Deals
-Blood Bowl Stadiums
-Famous Referees
-Goblin and Halfling Referees
-Special Balls
-Optional Weather Tables

These rules can all be found in the Almanac. They can also be found various other books, magazines, etc. If you don't have the Almanac, any copy will work.

Rosters and tracking
It will be up to each coach to maintain his or her roster. We use this digital roster. To use it, first make a copy for your team. Select your team race from the drop-down, then you can start selecting positions for all your players. Most info will auto-fill, including stats, value, starting skills, etc. Select upgrades from the Skills and Improvements drop-downs; stats will auto-update, as will value. If a player is missing next game, put an x in that column; their value will zero-out. Wants to Retire will change the Cost to Re-Draft appropriately. Share it with the league commissioner.

After each game, report the final score, as well as number of casualties each team scored. Only casualties you get SPP for count, so casualties from fouling, getting pushed into the crowd, etc. do not count toward your total.

Incomplete Matches
Tuesday will be the official league night. While attendance is not required, it is highly encouraged. If two coaches in the same division do not manage to get their competition game completed, attendance on Tuesday will be the #1 factor the commissioner will use to determine who was at fault (and hence, who receives the loss). If neither coach is found to be at fault for not completing a game, the match will be considered a draw. Regardless of how an incomplete match is resolved, neither player receives any touchdowns, casualties, star player points, or winnings for the match, so there is always incentive to try and play a match.

If you leave the league early, all incomplete matches against opponents who did not leave early are considered losses. All matches against other coaches who also left early are considered draws.

Penalties
This league is designed to be a fun, fair, and friendly environment for all. If a player is found to be engaging in any activities that hinder this goal, from poor sportsmanship to cheating, the commissioner (currently Shane Ivins) reserves the right to penalize the player(s) involved in whatever manner seems appropriate, up to and including expulsion from this and all future leagues.

I played swarm before it was cool. What's that? You say it's still not cool? Oh. Well, when it becomes cool, remember I was playing it now.
