It's been a little over 19 years since Buzz Thom put out the first issue of track magazine and the entire first year is now uploaded.

During that first year he wrote in 4 successive issues bits about local track history. You can find them in the archive but I've also put them responses to this message for easy access and discussion.

The first (in issue no. 7) was about the deepest boys distance team of all-time at Clairemont High School with 4 milers who ran from 4:12 to 4:19, and another in the low 4:20's. Art Anderson was the coach and the top 5 runners were Dave Harper, Dale Fleet, Mark Novak, Rick Lord, and Rick Barnard.
Also featured in the "Remember When" section was the 1986 San Diego girl milers who dominated California distance running year.

The second (in issue no. 8)featured the Mt. Miguel 1969 throwers and coaches.
They had 2 shot putters over 60 feet in Billy Joe Winchester and Steve Dougherty.
In the discus they threw 180 and 172-8 respectively.
The coach was Bob Larson. Also featured in "Remember When" was the 1987 Boys' CIF pole vault competition.

The third (in issue no. 9) featured Coach Elmer Runge, Thom Hunt, and other great Patrick Henry athletes during Runge's career. This was his last season.

The fourth (in issue no. 10) featured Chula Vista's Tim Danielson and his high school career.

I'll go through my back issues and earmark the dates that have historical articles, so you can cherry pick those and re-publish them. There's a lot of interesting things.

JC, you have MY permission to use the material any way you see fit, and I can't think of a better place to publish than in a Runge Invitational program.
