Best marks found to date:

Metric:
7:48.39, Torrey Pines, 2011, at Mt SAC?
7:50.57, West Hills, 2000, Mt. SAC
7:51xxx, Cathedral Catholic, 2012,Arcadia
7:53.25, West Hills, 1999, Mt. SAC

880 yards, unconverted times:
7:49.5, Valhalla, 1979
7:53.8, Patrick Henry, 1974
7:55.8, Patrick Henry, 1975
7:55.9, Crawford, 1973
7:56.0, Patrick Henry, 1973

NOTE: This was not an exceptional event for San Diego section teams, until the mid 1970s. The fastest time run before 1970 was a modest 7:59.0, with no other teams faster than 8:00. Eight minutes is a significant time in this event, because it means all four runners averaged sub-2:00. It was definitely harder than it looked, obviously. You needed competition to achieve fast times in this race, and that was to be found in meets like Mt. SAC and Arcadia. When local teams started going to those meets in earnest, the times came down.

Now, Don Mario, if you would be so kind as to provide the splits for your runners, it would be appreciated. Great race, by the way.

The rough conversion for 1979 Valhalla is 7:47.0. Then slot in the 2011 Torrey team, and the 2000 West Hills team. The 1974 Henry time is about 7:51.3, so that is very close for the four/five spot

I am also finding some more marks in recent years, but none faster than 7:53. I'll publish an updated list that is more complete sometime after Mt. SAC.

Terry Dockery or Coach Jones, can you provide the FAT times, confirm the location, and add your best set of splits? If not, I'll research it. If anybody is wondering, my information is set up so that is easier to access older information than very recent results. My problem is that I don't have access to the internet any time I need information, and a lot of meet results are now more or less exclusively online. So often I have delays researching outstanding marks that were made in the last few years.

ok, I just researched the last three years of the mt. sac 4x800s for the last three years, from their official website, which included the runners names.

Any coach associated with Torrey, RB, RBV, Westview and Bonita Vista is invited to provide correct information about the correct order of the runners (which is not always the same order as printed in the results), and, if possible, your best set of splits.

Hi Buzz,
Don probably is ahead of me on this but our 4 x 8 stats from 2011 are:
Anthony Girolamo 1:58.6, Geoff Bogan 1:56.7, Kevin Mihalik 2:00.7, Ian Cable 1:56.8 (7:52.83)
We were hoping to go sub 7:50 this weekend at Sac but lost two of the guys in the past week.
Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
Hope you are doing well.
