Hi all, we have recently taken on another rescue saluki.
He seems to drink excessivly, he gets through about 1&a 1/2
- 2 liters of water a day. He is dry fed on CSJ gluten free food,
our other saluki hardly drinks at all. Our new dog is supposed
to be 2 years old but we think he may be about 18 months.
He is also a chewer! so far he has eaten 1 collar, 2 leads
coal, logs and a bed or 2. He can wee and poo for England.
His first poo is nice and solid by the 4 or 5th is is very soft.
Some days he will have 6 or 7 poos!. Could this be connected
to his drinking?
Dogs vary hugely as to how much they drink, it also depends on what they eat. My lurcher never used to drink at all, whereas my saluki drinks quite a lot. I wouldn't worry too much, but if you want to be sure it might be worth taking a urine sample to the vet just to be safe.
Poos again vary. My saluki does several poos a day starting off solid, and gradually (during a walk) getting softer. He is fed on a dry food. My raw fed dogs do this less. It isn't anything to worry about though, but again it might be worth trying a different variety of CSJ (which is a pretty good food in general) to see whether it makes a difference.
Salukis stay young for a long time, and the best thing to do really is to simply treat him like a puppy and manage things accordingly e.g. putting things out of the way etc.
