Is anyone familiar with this paper:

It's a grad student thesis on throwing a frisbee backhand. The kinematics start in Chapter 4.

I'm not sure the author understood the implications of the results. It would have been interesting to see some debate.

A backhand frisbee throw does have some similarities to a golf swing.

Interesting papers but I don't think there's anything to debate in the second paper. The data is what it is. There might be commentary about the limits of the experiment (1 subject, no analysis of segments nearer the fixed joint) but that would not change this result.

The author noted that some segments in the chain appeared to be holding back rather than positively contributing to the motion. She considered that a lost opportunity. (for example, does the wrist act to delay release, or does it snap forward and add to the speed?_

But as we've discussed here, that isn't necessarily true.
