As I return to this question and think more carefully about it, it was actually an appropriate question that I hope stimulates a meaningful answer from myself.
When I reexamine this question, I have to think about what we've been discussing so far. What is the difference between general and special revelation? I would contend that all revelation is special and personal
. Nothing in relation to God can be given substance without God coming in and revealing Himself.
While Paul gives an account of generally available signs of God at the beginning of Romans, he is establishing that it didn't suffice, and the Gentile peoples showed little concern for God. Right after that he discusses the special revelation of the Law and how in reality for a lot of Jews it didn't accomplish much more. Many of them weren't true Israel
But is God able to use either for His purpose? I believe so, and that is why I emphasize sharing both with people. In the passage I shared from Acts, Paul wasn't appealing to special revelation at all. Obviously he had previously to that same group and he was going to continue doing just that, but at the Areopagus he didn't just use logic, he discussed metaphysical truths to bring them to a better understanding of general revelation.
What's the difference between general and special revelation? It is all part of one revelation. One part can lead to interest in the other part because God is whole
, and He is simple
. His immutability extends to His revelation.
