October 23, 1965 : the Farm Academy of Bristol, Ohio defeated the Erie High School 1-0 after 28 extra periods without either team making a substitution. The game lasted more than nine hours and finished with the aid of automobile headlights.

Recently came across this story - in wartime English football cup games were often played with ice hockey-style 'next goal wins' rather than regular extra time or replays, and in some cases the rule expanded to include 'next corner wins'...
