Costa Rican Football Federation modifies historical “A†matches to meet FIFA, CONCACAF standards
The Costa Rican Football Federation (Federacion Costarricense de Fútbol) and the country's Commission of Football History and Statistics (Comisión de Historia y Estadísticas del Futbol) unveiled last week new modifications to its international men's matches to meet the FIFA and CONCACAF standards.
The eight-man Historical & Stats Commission (CRC Commission), under chairmanship of Gerardo Coto joined Eduardo Li, the Costa Rican Football Federation president, in the announcement at a press conference at the Federation's Proyecto Gol in San José on June 6.
Almost 70 matches were modified into the respective lists, which resulted in several changes, including the recognition that Costa Rica has now played 541 official matches and is 14 goals (986) shy of 1,000.

Above list excludes Olympic matches (incl Panamerican Games) but also matches against Guadeloupe, Martinique etc.. Also the 1921 match vs El Salvador which I mentioned earlier.

Question is, why were some of the CAC Games matches deleted? Did they just follow FIFA's list and in that case FIFA's errors? Unbelievable..

Another removed matches:
1940-02-25 and 1940-03-10 vs El Salvador. CR actually was Liga Deportiva Alajuelense and ES fielded two foreigners.
1946-03-07 vs Honduras (CCCF Championship).. why?
1955-08-14 vs Aruba (CCCF Championship)
1968-09-22 vs Colombia
1975 vs Argentina. Seems FIFA does not recognise Argentine matches in Copa Ciudad de México!
1980 two friendlies vs Venezuela.. Olympic preparation matches.
That's all matches pre-1980 that I went through.
1983-07-27 vs Polonia Warszawa added! as CR vs Poland. God know why..it's not on FIFA's list.

Probable confusion, as "Polonia" means Poland in Spanish (and Italian, Portuguese, ....)

While I think it's positive that Costa Rica dedicated some effort towards its historical data, and they certainly did a thorough job by involving Gerardo Coto, I cannot understand why they felt the need to comply with current FIFA "rules" on Olympic Games matches. This can only be considered as "dumbing down" the list.
Other nations do not bother to impose FIFA's rules to overrule their own lists.
While FIFA continues to include matches such as the 1936 Olympic match between Great Britain and the Republic of China* in its lists, it has no business in imposing its stupid, arbitrary, over-simplified rulings over national associations. National associations should at least by default be considered competent enough to handle their own affairs in these matters, when they show evidence of attempting to do so.
* Note: FIFA wrongly labels the Chinese team as "PR China" in this game.
FIFA's revisionist attempts to simplify history, by simply deleting matches which confuse them, are analogous to "improving" a dictionary by ripping out the pages with difficult words.
To the people at FIFA responsible for these decisions (and yes, I do know you are reading this): please, just give up. You are incompetent. You simply don't know what you are doing with historical info (as the above 1936 example shows).
Stick to what you are good at, whatever that is. I'm sure you'll find something.

I want to share a historic and rare picture which refers to the match Costa Rica-El Salvador 1-0 from July 16, 1989.Thanks to this win, Costa Rica conquered the 1989 Concacaf Championship and, above all, the qualification for the 1990 World Cup (their first appearance ever). This was also their last continental triumph, after the successes in 1941, 1946, 1948, 1953, 1955, 1960 and 1961 CCCF Championships and 1963 and 1969 Concacaf Championships.

Some rare and legendary pictures showing the triumph of Costa Rica in the 1989 CONCACAF Chmpionship. Thanks to this success, they qualified for the first time to the FIFA World Cup. This was also their 10th and last continental triumph, after the 7 CCCF titles (1941, 1946, 1948, 1953, 1955, 1960 and 1961) and the CONCACAF successes in 1963 and 1969.

1983-07-27 vs Polonia was actually Poland Olympic.
Poland: Jacek Kazimierski, Dariusz Kubicki, Marek Chojnacki, Kazimierz Sokołowski, Dariusz Wdowczyk; Adam Walczak, Mirosław Pękala, Henryk Miłoszewicz; Adam Kensy, Andrzej Zgutczyński, Marek Filipczak. Subs: Jacek Bąk, Jan Urban

Poland also played Colombia on this tour.

An interesting article from La Nación shows a very rare picture of Costa Rica celebrating their win at the 1963 Concacaf Championship.

An interesting "relic" from my "archive"...
A postage stamp from Costa Rica about the 1960 Panamerican Championship, held in San José in March 1960. That was the third edition of the tournament.

I go on with my "celebrations" of the most important moments in the history of the various national teams through my personal archive.
This is one of the most brilliant wins by Costa Rica: a 1-0 success against Italy Olympic at Los Angeles '84. The Italian press defined that loss as "the second Korea", recalling the resounding defeat against North Korea at England '66.

And don't forget Costa Rica - Italy 1-0 (again!!!...) during the last WC in Brazil. Worst than in US, because it was the Italy "A" Team, not the Olympic one: another "Korea", in my opinion.

Nooo, the 2014 Costa Rica was a very brilliant team who offered an
impressive performance. Losing against them was not humiliating,
in my opinion. The 1958, 1966 and 2010 eliminations were much worse.

True, but don't forget that also N.Korea, in 1966, was a very brilliant team (not only against Italy. . .)

Yes, sure. But after reading a lot of stuff about that unlucky match with North Korea, I'm more and more convinced that something unclear happened. A couple of years ago, during a TV programme, Sandro Mazzola said that he and his teammates couldn't stand on their feet during the game, as if they had been sedated.
There was probably a political manoeuvre behind that defeat...

Talking about "tactic" and "sedate: France-Brazil, 98WC Final. The Brazilian players unrecognizable on the field. . . and then (the day after) Ronaldo, totally unstable on his feet, when going down the ladder of the plane. . .

To be honest I've never watched the footages thoroughly, but after reading a lot of articles and after listening to the statements of a serious and reliable person like Sandro Mazzola, I suspect something strange happened.Just to clarify: according to the gossip, this hypothetical plot was not done by the North Koreans, but by someone (Italian) who would take advantage of that resounding defeat in order to overthrow the then President of FIGC...

What an unbelievable coincidence!!! The goal giving Costa Rica the pass for the 2018 World Cup is identical to the one giving them the pass for the 1990 World Cup!!
