Good news - 2018 Micronesian Games will include football.  Also, 7-a-side women's football for the first time,

islands that will compete (but very unlikely they will all participate in the soccer tournament)

KOSRAE, CHUUK, GUAM, KIRIBATI, MARSHALL ISLANDS, NAURU, NORTHERN MARIANAS, PALAU, POHNPEI and YAP will be competing.

According to Paul Watson (ex coach of Pohnpei), Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Yap are definitely participating.

Last survey for interest in participation came up with the following football teams for the 2018 Micro Games.  Teams should be finalised in the next month or two.

Pohnpei, Yap, Nauru, Kiribati, Chuuk.

Would be great if these are the final teams!

Nauru????? God please let this happen haha

Alittle surprised Palau 🇵🇼 didn’t express interest, but amazing for Nauru 🇳🇷 if this happens

Yep - teams in this region need to start their football lives by participating in this competition.  Shame there is still no interest from Marshall Islands.  Next chance won't be until 2022...

Fingers crossed for Nauru - I was a bit surprised that they showed interest, but it's a much gentler introduction to international football than the Pacific Games would be...

0% at the moment :-) (or 100%, or undefined, more properly - 0 out of 0). That famously unbelievable 1994 Nauru 2-1 Solomon Islands match was actually Nauru playing against a team of Solomon Islands immigrant workers in Nauru at that time...

A team of immigrant Nauruan workers also played in (and against) Kiribati as well - but so far, no international matches for any Nauru national team against another national team.

Knew it already. So they played a demi-international match against NRU<SOL, not quite ideal for the narrative but they still won the only time they played, all they have to do now is keep winning at this tournament and there's no argument whatsoever... 😉

To concur with previous information, as expected, Northern Mariana Islands isn’t sending a football team to the 2018 games.

So we should know the entries for all sports on 15th January - hopefully these will be published.

Maybe I’m just being skeptical, but I just don’t see Nauru and Kiribati sending teams. Have a shitty feelings it’s only going to be 3 Micronesian state teams.

When you were told Nauru and Kiribati may compete, did your source sound optimistic? Or was that all they said?

My source was the games organisers themselves.  They just said this was the state of play at the last survey on who showed interest in participating.

Disappointing that it's just these 3, so it will really be more like the FSM Games.

Is there a link stating that this is the final list of participating teams?  There was meant to be a 7-a-side women's tournament as well...

From the organisers' official Facebook page, it says that Nauru and Kiribati (or Kiribiti as is written here) are down for football, but they haven't yet responded to confirm their teams:

Maybe it's a brilliant play by the Marshall Islands to wait until all the other teams decide not to bother, then enter at the last minute and win gold by default.

According to the organisers, the deadline to confirm team entry was 2 weeks ago, but they say they will wait for Nauru and Kiribati, and then update the list above (so it seems Nauru and Kiribati are late, but it doesn't matter, they will still accept their team lists).

It's good that there is no need to denounce the sterotypes of the islander mentality towards deadlines etc.

It is a tough decision for Kiribati though.  Should they spend their budget on the Micro Games, playing against comparable nations in an event which may very well be cancelled altogether anyway, or should they go to London to be thrashed 15-0 twice by made up non-countries (and 8-0 by Matabeleland)?

It's a pity no nations are playing at the Micronesian Games (unless Nauru pull off a huge surprise). Kiribati could be the star attraction - the only country taking part.  They'll already get that in London, but they may feel like some more adulation.

There's still time for the universal recognition of TRNC or Abkhazia before June... or for someone to withdraw (Cascadia?) and a country take their place.

so far we haven't heard whether there are likely to be any visa difficulties in getting some of the teams to London.  Probably we will be told that there is definitely no such problem, and it would be stupid and negative to even suggest the mere idea that there could be a problem, but then in the end, there probably will be.

This was just a DRAFT schedule IF 5 teams took part (it is not the official schedule).

"THIS SCHEDULE ASSUMES THAT THERE WILL BE FIVE TEAMS IN THE TOURNAMENT. IF THERE ARE A GREATER OR LESSER NUMBER OF TEAMS, A NEW SCHEDULE WILL BE PREPARED AND DISTRIBUTED."

I don't think Kiribati is taking part, as there are only 6 group matches on the competition schedule on the website.

https://microgames2018.com/the-games/co ... -schedule/

Confirmed in the breakout of the teams - Palau, Chuuk, Yap and Pohnpei only will participate - no Kiribati team - https://microgames2018.com/the-games/breakout-of-teams/

No schedule yet - how hard can it be to make a schedule for 4 teams? :-)

They have been given a schedule from the competition committee, but it only contains numbers (1, 2, 3 and 4) - so this is useless if we don't know which team corresponds to which number!  The same has happened in basketball.

In volleyball, there is a list of teams, along with their numbers, so at least the schedule can be worked out.

That can't be true, as Nauru have won 5 medals (2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze) so far.

http://websites.sportstg.com/medal.cgi?mt=28&pID=1

Results so far in the football competition:

Pohnpei 2-1 Palau
Yap 4-2 Chuuk
Chuuk 1-0 Palau (official site says 1-0 to Palau, but this is wrong - they have made many errors in other sports as well - it seems their team of volunteers is not very careful when updating results).
Yap 2-2 Pohnpei
Chuuk 1-1 Pohnpei
Yap 4-2 Palau

Tomorrow's games:
3rd Place: Chuuk v Palau
Final: Yap v Pohnpei

Still trying to get confirmation of the group match result between Chuuk and Palau.  The Palau National Olympic Committee sait Chuuk won 1-0, but the official Games site says Palau won 1-0.

Bronze match : Palau 2-0 Chuuk according to Palau National Olympic Committee, 1-0 according to the official Games site.

Final: Yap 2-3 Pohnpei.

The 2022 Games will probably be in the Marshall Islands - would be good to see football continue there, hopefully with the hosts making a long-awaited appearance.

Also confirmed by someone from Chuuk on Facebook - Chuuk won the first game 1-0 against Palau, then Palau won the bronze match 2-0.

I've told the organisers - they said they will check the score sheets.

Given the general apathy and haphazard organization of this year's edition, and the costs involved, my prediction is that (regrettably) there will be no football in 2022.
