Riokai

Riokai is a world of sand, dust, and scorching heat. A world filled with desert and dotted sparsely with oasis. The Endari and Rahkshal are the natives of the land.

The Endari are very human-like in appearance. They have caramel colored skin, and for the most part they have dark hair. Their eyes are often very vibrant hues of blue, violet, pink, red, orange, or yellow. They are nomadic, moving from one oasis to another. The Endari live in clans that number anywhere from five hundred to one thousand. There are seven clans: Vindal, Riek, Mahl, Junkai, Helkai, Vikdal, Messai, and Dahl.

The clans are matriarchal, meaning that women are respected as leaders and counselors rather than men. Partly, this is due to women being able to use magic, while men cannot. The leader of each clan is always a woman, and she is called the Roc.

Though the men do not have the ability to use magic, they are excellent warriors. They have tremendous stamina, strength, speed, and reflexes. (Think three times that of a fit human.) They also often use enchanted items to increase their combat effectiveness. One such item is the Diashan Stud. It is a stud that the men place in their left earlobes. The gem in the stud is glass made from crystallizing sand. Once placed in the earlobe, the Diashan Stud allows the men to communicate with each other telepathically within a range of two miles. This makes it an excellent tool for issuing commands and warnings on the battlefield.

The Rahkshal are a lizard-like species of humanoids. They are bi-pedal, like humans, however, their bodies are covered in scales and they have the heads of giant lizards. Their scales vary in coloration from brown to gray to black to red. They have claws and their hands and feet, and they make good use of them in combat. They are hatched from eggs instead of birthed. The first Rahkshal to hatch in its nest will often be eaten by its mother. This is a lesson to the Rahkshal that being to first to succeed is not always the best way to succeed.

The Rahkshal are not capable of using magic, however, each Rahkshal is, at least, twice as strong and fast as an Endari. The Rahkshal live in tribes of twenty to twenty-five. To become the leader of a tribe, a Rahkshal must challenge the current leader to single combat. The winner is the leader of the tribe. The loser is dead. The leaders are called Warlords, and it is an apt name for the Rahkshal are constantly at war with one another and the Endari.


Setting

Our story begins in the heat of battle, as Rahkshal hunting party attacks a small group of Endari from Clan Dahl as they make their way across the desert to the Sumeran Oasis. There is hatred between both species, and the battle is expected to get quite intense, but something is about to happen that will possibly make two lifelong enemies come together as allies, even if it is for the briefest of moments.

Character Registration

I'm not going to bother approving characters. That being said, don't go overboard with magic and such. Make it interesting, but don't make it overpowering. You may place your first post in the same post as your character template.

Endari




Name: Ryaka of Clan Dahl
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Role: Sorceress

Appearance: Ryaka have very vibrant and lustrous violet eyes and dark hair. She bares tribal tattoos down her left arm in a sleeve. He top is made of blue silk, and leaves her midriff bare. Her bottom is a sandy-white colored silk skirt that tapers on her right thigh. Her skirt is held in place by a belt of multi-hued sandpearls that matches her multitude of necklaces and bracelets.

Personality: She is still young, but quite confident in her abilities as a sorceress. As with all of the young, she has never considered death and believes that she will live forever. She has a very strong will and an equally as hard head, but she is capable of seeing reason. Sometimes it just has to rubbed into her face before she acknowledges it.

Magic (Women Only): As a sorceress, Ryaka commands the five elements: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, and Lightning. She is still quite young, however, and is by no means a master of the elements. Unlike many sorceresses, who specialize in one or two of the elements, Ryaka focuses her training equally amongst all of the elements. Though this may make her individual elements weaker, she has a wider variety of options in combat.

Items:
  • Diashan Stud - A stud that is placed in the left earlobe. The gem is glass made from crystallized sand. The stud allows Ryaka to communicate telepathically with anyone wearing a Diashan Stud within two miles of her.
  • Throwing Knives - Ryaka has 7 six-inch long throwing knives tucked into her sandpearl belt.
  • Ryatan - A kriss dagger made of steel with a nine-inch long blade. The hilt is made of gold and shaped into a nude sculpture of Enda, the Goddess of the Endari.



Ryaka paused as a sheet of sand blew across her party, temporarily blinding them. Something didn't feel right. Something hadn't felt right for past hour or so. She couldn't place her finger on what was wrong, but she knew in her heart that something was out of place. It was frustrating to to no end that she couldn't figure out what it was.

She stomped her foot and a cyclone of wind formed around, blocking the sand from buffeting her. Ryaka took the moment of respite that her wind magic gave her, and wiped the sand from her eyes. In a few moments, the wind had died down the sand settle back to the white dunes from which the wind had carried it from.

Something moved beneath the sand, and Ryaka tensed up. She slowly reached to Ryatan, her dagger, hanging from her belt. Anything could be beneath the sand. Poisonous vipers, giant sand worms, venomous lizards, or... No. The Rahkshal were cunning, but she doubted that they would hide beneath the sand to ambush them.

She relaxed her grip on the dagger, and let her self relax. It was probably just the sand settling back into place. Ryaka let out a slow even breath, and prepared herself to continue their journey to the Sumeran Oasis, where their clan awaited them.

Clan Dahl had split up into several groups some two weeks ago, when a trio of giant sand worms had began tracking the clan. By splitting up, the sand worms were forced to pursue three smaller groups rather than one large group. Ryaka had no doubt that three groups would not be returning to Clan Dahl at the Sumeran Oasis, but her group was safe from sand worms for now. Nobody had sensed any of them closing in on their location.
