Latest edit:
Huki’s latest V1.2 AI (beta 0815) uses the car AI part of parameters.txt in the old way again, so you can use this tutorial for both the old AI (V1207) and the new AI (V1.2). The same tuning result works for both versions, so you’re good to go in any case. The only difference is that Huki’s v1.2 AI has better crash recovery and route selection.
Yay, thanks, Huki!

Edit: no, the tuning value is different, and Huki's AI has a sharp excessive countersteer happening sometimes that breaks the car's flow. So it's possible for V1.2 in principle, but not perfect.

Excellent news, there are some cars I've been trying to tweak for the AI to drive properly, now I might start messing around with this.

Tried the AI Showpack with the latest 1.2, some cars still don't behave right. There's some weird thing going on with the steering control: it seems like cars use a click-click method instead of a smooth correction one, and so they find it difficult to turn. Just try -gazzasaicar when using the Toy Copter and see how it steers: it keeps on doing like this:
full-steered
straight
full-steered
straight
...
and so it steers slightly slower than it can, making the AI mess up in almost all corners. Same goes for the overpowered things, i.e. K22a Virus and T-Bucket, and some of the high-inertia ones, i.e. Caterpillar or Komatsu 930e.

Most others are pretty much fine, but they already were, even with the 'new' AI used in some other 1.2s: the one and only car which got MUCH better is Sprinter XL, now properly counter-steering on ice.

Hmmm... Oh well, this is out of my hands. <runs off> I’m telling Huki!

Edit:
Burner (and others), if you want, you can test these puppies for old and new AI: Expert Stocks.
From readme:
- - - - -
These are the original stock cars as expert opponents, for those who want an extra challenge. Their car AIs are tuned from scratch, so they run well (and difficult ones run at least decently) on all surfaces, including ice.
(For now they’re good for old AI. I’m not guaranteeing anything with Huki’s V1.2 yet.)

AI tuned on Supermarket 2, tested on Neighbourhood 2 and 1.
Have fun trying to catch them :)

Includes the extra vehicles that the AI normally never selects, for future (if Huki ever makes them AI-selectable. They’re player-selectable already with CARNIVAL code and -dev mode. Even Trolley :)).

Installation:
The pack includes only parameter files. Unpack like usual. The "cars" folder will have an extra subfolder "original_stocks" – copy its contents over to the "cars" folder if you want to restore the original behaviour of the cars.
