Website Settings Suddenly Gone

I use the site daily and when I came to the site today all my info was gone. My notes, my checklists, trade items, settings, API, all of it. I haven't cleared my browser cache or cookies so I'm not sure why it's suddenly gone. It worked fine yesterday. D:

Can you copy and paste me the full URL on your address bar while on the site? Is it "https://gw2timer.com" or just "gw2timer.com"?

If you see "https", then the good news is that the transition to HTTPS is working, and your old settings are still in your browser, but they're stored at:

Code: Select all

http://gw2timer.com
but you are currently viewing

Code: Select all

https://gw2timer.com
which has a blank slate of the site's default settings

The bad news is that I did not anticipate the LocalStorage to be different between "http" and "https". I am still seeing "http://gw2timer.com" on my browser, so I don't think the site's transition is complete. When it is, I'll try to automatically convert your settings from the http version to the new one; if that's not possible, I will have to revert the site back to http and instruct everyone to backup their settings (by going to the bottom of the Options page). I'll give people maybe two weeks to do it?

What browser are you using? I can instruct you to manually copy your settings.

I just opened the site again after reading your reply and it brought up http://gw2timer.com and all my settings were there. So maybe it sometimes does https://gw2timer.com and sometimes doesn't. I backed up my settings while I was at it so I can import them to the https site.

I don't think the automatic transfer is safe, because if I code something wrong it may overwrite all your old settings. I'm going to make an announcement to the users so they manually backup and transfer their data by:

1. HTTP Source: Go to http://gw2timer.com/?page=Options > scroll down to the bottom > Print Website Memory > click the generated link and save the text file. IMPORTANT: Make sure the browser address bar shows "gw2timer.com" without the "https".

2. HTTPS Destination: Go to https://gw2timer.com/?page=Options > scroll down to the bottom > Import / Restore > click the Choose File button and load that text file from your computer. IMPORTANT: Make sure the browser address bar shows "https://gw2timer.com".

If you get a browser warning when going to the HTTPS site, click on "Advanced" then "Proceed" (Chrome) or "Add Exception" (Firefox).

Looks like everything imported just fine when I imported the options backup. Thanks!

I'm attempting to backup and import my settings from the http to https page.... but when I try to manually put in http://gw2timer.com or gw2timer.com it redirects automatically to the https page rendering me unable to backup the old settings.

I'm on firefox so that probably has something to do it with it :|

I tried loading the http page on chrome too and it automatically redirects to the https page as well.

Sorry, I wasn't sure what settings enabled HTTPS (because the changes take hours to take effect), so I toggled the "Always use HTTPS" switch on, which as you said forced you to the HTTPS site. I've turned it off and now on my browser I can go to both http://gw2timer.com and https://gw2timer.com

I'm thinking of keeping HTTPS, so please change your bookmark to https://gw2timer.com after you've transferred your settings from the HTTP site.

Hi,

I did it three times, it says 133 objects loaded please refresh, but when I do, the warning to backup/restore my data appears again..

I also tried to clear all website data with no luck.

Any ideas?

I set the warning to disappear after February; it doesn't actually check whether you've backup or not. If you see your old settings on the HTTPS page then the restore worked correctly.

I understand your confusion now, but I don't want to add another option in the website's logic to hide that temporary message. If the message doesn't disappear automatically fast enough for you, you can press Esc to dismiss it manually.
