I have read all sorts of articles on pruning grapes, but never understood any of them.
I planted this one last spring and cut off all branches that I did not want, leaving one to climb to the left.
The wall is L shaped, 6 feet high and 10 feet long.
If I rub off the buds I don't want then train the remaining buds in parallel lines along the wall, will this work?
I'm no expert, but here's what I do.
I let all the buds grow, then when there are a pair of fully formed leaves I cut off the growing tip if I don't want that shoot to stay.
That way there are plenty of leaves to provide the energy to feed the vine.
When there are grapes filling out I cut off the closest leaves to allow light on the fruit.
if there are any experts out there you may get a different answer.
