Got a bit of an infestation on my Washingtonia which has been in the back bedroom over the winter. I have hoovered them all off with the brush attachment. Will regular soapy water spray do the trick to prevent them coming back? Don't really want to use chemicals unless I absolutely have to.

Scotts Bug Clear seems to control them if you have to use chemicals Sal.

Red spider love very dry conditions, so if you spray your plant with soapy water it should work.

If you can move the plant outdoors for a few hours during the day Sal, the cold damp conditions might kill them off.
Obviously if it is too cold for the plant refrain from this idea.

The infestation on my brugmansia got so bad by the time I noticed it that nothing seemed to shift it. In the end I did a kill or cure treatment and dunked the plant complete with pot under water for half an hour.
Little blighters held their breath.

My brugmansias seem to suffer a lot with these too Rich. Almost to the point where I'm wondering if it's worth keeping them
