My annual climber seedlings are now around 4-6" tall and most have only the one stem. Should I pinch the tops out as I would with sweet peas? I am referring to thunbergia, ipomoea coccinea, ipomoea x sloteri and mina lobata

Hello Sal, I would say that you have a choice there. Leave them alone and I'm sure they will naturally produce breaks. Alternatively you could stop them providing there are at least 3 leaves or pairs of leaves/nodes from which growths will arise. Peter

I don't know Salli.. I always buy the seedlings and leave them the way they are.
they seem to be pretty much "bushy-ied" out.
Probably pinched, yes.
What does your gut is telling you?

Pinch away Salli - why not leave some and pinch some, just as an experiment to see the difference in growth.

Thanks peeps. I will do as you suggest DeeDee. I didn't pinch them last year. They did develop some extra stems but weren't exactly "bushy"

Hello you happy band of pinchers and stoppers - can I join the club. I've had to stop my windowsill peppers because I could see the experiment failing due to them getting too tall. Perhaps they will anyway.
