Thanks both.  The Viburnum puts it's flower spikes out before Christmas and then "sits there" until spring.  The Wellies are actually a planter, I was given a couple of Christmases ago.

Ah - I just took a look and realised it now looks like this. I have no idea when this happened - I've been away quite a bit and the weather's been foul and I've not been paying attention!   

BTW, it's not long since that bed was weeded. Every time weeding is done it rains and the little devils spring up overnight!
