I know its against racing rules but I do not wish to race so any ideas of sizes and UK suppliers.

My local Hobby Stores branch has a good selection of carbon fibre rod and tubes at a reasonable price. You could try Amazon or ebay but I like the personal contact. You could try Google as I did. There are a large number of companies selling the stuff but often in large quantities. I would suggest that if you have any Hobby shop near you they would stock a range. I bought some for a Footy I built last week but it would have been perfect for a Racing Sparrow.

Carbon fibre has lots of benefits ... just be mindful that it is a very different material to work with than metal. It is strong as long as you are bending it against the grain of the fibres. It becomes very brittle and will splinter if you start drilling it too close to an edge. I used it for my RS375 booms and mast and would recommend using fittings that are sleeved and glued over the rods rather than drilling holes through it. Remember also that carbon fibre is one of the most hazardous materials you can work with ... don't breath in fibres or dust.
