Hello all, it's been awhile. I need some help, there's something off about the head/face i made and i need some criticism/help to help fix what's going on proportionally. Also please give me some criticism as to other areas of this sprite. Thanks all.
Try something like this
Because the mouth is such a small element of the face, it needs to be simplified to the bare minimum - just a line, no smoothing. The visor is also a very small element, so you can't waste valuable space on outlines. It's a traditional pixel trick, but instead use a highlight to accent the edges, and fill in as much of the rest as you can with solid color to simplify. The other issue is blending the harsh blacks in with the light skin colors. You need some anti-aliasing around the edges of the hair and the side of the glasses to make it all blend together and look like they're a part of the face. Just a few dark skin tones should do it
I'd push the chest into his right shoulder a bit more to show perspective, and I'd tone down the abdominal muscles to make them not so straight and mechanical (MvC Cable would be a great reference). I also simpified the fingers, but that's going to be a tough one, and you'd be best off copying hands from an existing set of sprites. Remember, the fewer colors you have, the harder hands will be to work with
