Ok, so i went and listened to Bonnie Tyler's I Need a Hero and I realized it sounded like a few songs. To sum it up, it seems like Sega in the 80s was a fan of this song.

The first one is the theme song to Space Harrier due to it kind of having the feel, but the beat definitely has a lot to do with it. I may be hearing things but the theme to Hang-On kind of gives off that feel. It isn't as distinct as Space Harrier with its beat, but the melody and overall key is certainly there.

Another one is the third BGM in E-Swat arcade. This may only be me, but when the song takes off, it really sounds similar to me.

That song was HUGE was it new and got used in a lot of TV shows, ads and movies (a bit like "The Power" by Snap did when that hit it big), and I never really thought of that song's beautifully insane sound being a vibe until you mentioned it. If there was another big song like that before it, I don't remember it. Oddly, I kinda hear it more in Hang-On because of the melody, but parts of the drums for Space Harrier made it click there, too.

edit: I had no idea you could "like" posts here until now, so yours is the first I liked on the site! There'd be a cool emoticon after that, but don't have cool emoticons here anymore.

Hey, cool. I received the first like. 😀

But yeah, I am not the least bit surprised you would respond to a song like this one. Something about it just screamed "PrimeOp would have something to say about it" But outside of that, I noticed it had the same or very similar beat to the Space Harrier theme, though it also has a very similar "epic heroic" tone about it. It kind of felt similar, but the melody of Hang-On sounded a lot closer to the bonnie tyler song, though that song also feels oddly heroic despite not being featuring a hero (oddly, there is a similar game from sega called Riding Hero, but that has nothing to do with heroism either...not sure why it's called that) The chorus in this song sounds close to BGM 3 from E-Swat as i have demonstrated, but I am not sure if that is just me. Could just be an 80s thing in general, though I wouldn't be overly surprised if Hang-On and Space Harrier referenced that song considering they came out in the height of its popularity.

Here is an interesting one. It didn't instantly jump out at me, and it is one I covered before, but i realized this while humming it one day.

Is it possible that Zangief's Theme (CPS1) may have been inspired by Michael Jackson's Bad? It mostly seems apparent in the intro, but there are little bits throughout the song that raise an eyebrow.

Edit: Also forgot to bring this up...

This may just be me and an extreme stretch, but to me the women's team from KoF 2003 sounds oddly reminiscent of Fire Man's Stage. It just stood out to me, personally, but my ears are probably strange and thus I hear it.
