baby hiccups? (and update)

Hi Ladies,

(Sorry to be posting a lot, just a lot going on!)

Baby hiccups:

I think kiddo is getting them about 4/5 times a day. (They are quicker than adult ones, rhythmic and last abut 10 min or so?)

They start the first thing when I feel movement in the am and kiddo gets them until we go to sleep.

How often did you get them? Anything to worry about? (Can't find much online)

RN at the specialist kinda blew it off, I just an worried about everything at this point. I see my OB again on Monday, will ask her then as well, though in general OB's are more about the woman than the baby, you know?

I am currently 30+ weeks.

Thanks, Ladies!
Sara H

PS- Diet going well, but boring for someone who is a bit of a foodie and a HUGE summer fruit fan, but I am passing all my blood tests so we seem to have it under control for now. My fasting numbers have been going up, though, so I have to keep an eye on that. But, really, doing well in general.

and how annoying after a while! I remember tapping DD constantly at certain points to try to spook them.

P.S. - she was a major hiccuper for a couple of months after birth.

Nothing to worry about. Just LO's way of saying "I'm here momma and I'm OK!"

I had no idea this even happened in utero (and sorry I'm not an expert on this). Hopefully Mrs. A gave you the reassurance you need - this is the only thing I found that seemed somewhat helpful.http://www.babycenter.com/404_is-it-nor ... mb_2647.bc

It must provide some comfort on some weird level to feel these things?!

I have been following your GD results and the diet restrictions must stink but it seems like you are doing well for right now. Hang in there and sorry for what you have had to go through.

Very helpful, thank you!

Mrs A: If L. was a hippup-er then my kiddo is in good company, thank you!

SMRC: Great link! I had not seen that one, it does make me feel better. If it's correct or not I like all the mom's who were told "hiccups mean healthy baby"! Love that!

Thank you both!

Remember hiccups are muscle spasms in your diaphragm. So it's just your LO's diaphragm getting stronger so s/he can breathe when born!

I was surprised when she wasn't a major hiccupper after birth. In fact - I can probably count the number of times DD hiccuped on two hands since she was born (and she's almost 3).

I loved them! And DH could even feel them on the outside.

It was so cool because it was when I could tell DH, especially, "hey - feel this!" When she was moving - she didn't stay moving long enough for me to get his attention.

Enjoy them!

I remember my friend thought she can feel the baby heart beat, because her DS had hiccups all they and then her Dr told her its
hicups that she feels and its normal and it strengthed the breathing muscle.

She had hiccups a lot in my belly, I kind of hated them b/c they felt like a weird heart beat or something. I do know you're not supposed to count those as movements if you're doing kick counts though...just in case you didn't know that.

But yea, hiccups are normal and I think I read somewhere if they have them a lot in the womb, they'll have them a lot after their born too, and that's definitely true for my baby girl!

But, really, doing well in general.
i remember a good deal of hiccuping in utero and my mayo clinic pregnancy book said it isn't a problem. heck, let me look it up (yes, i've dusted it off for another round ). it says: "fortunately, hiccups pose no danger to babies before or after birth".

As others have said, baby hiccups in utero are totally normal. I found it quite amusing.

Glad that things are going well for you on your GD diet despite not being able to indulge in the summer fruit. I'm a huge lover of summer fruit, so I can only imagine how difficult that must be...I think I'm eating more than enough for the both of us, so you can live vicariously through me. Not the same I know and I feel badly that you are having to go through this. The good news is that you have gotten your numbers under control and you seem to be handling it like a pro. Keep on doing what you're doing!
