we have: "Two-vessel cord also known as single umbilical artery (SUA)"

Baby is growing perfectly and my odds of Downs are still 1 in well over 2000 and there were no other markers. I do have to go for a fetal heart EKG in three weeks.

It's a 1 in 100 chance to have this problem... Miracle babies... why do they have to KEEP beating the odds all the time???

I am OK, feel better since there is no slowing of growth or anything else, but not too happy about it all. Anyone have the same? (Probably not!) OB, who I saw right after, is fine with it, really not worried, but still...

But everything else was perfect: size, bones, hands, feet... all that. Got some good pics, too!

Thanks, ladies!

Are you going to see a MFM? They checked this for me and acted like it wasn't a big deal if present.

Glad he or she looks good

But everything else was perfect: size, bones, hands, feet... all that. Got some good pics, too!

Thanks, ladies!

Sorry for the added worry though. The fact that your OB is not concerned about it sounds like all will be okay. They are monitoring you, so that is good.

Glad baby is measuring on track and that you got some good pics.

But so sorry about the unexpected issue. It sounds like it isn't a major concern since your OB isn't worried.

Things r going to be all fine. One in twooooooooooo thousand is still very low. Did u just do blood test or u did amino or CVS? the blood test isn't very accurately. Also there is this new blood test that is out there and is very accurate. I don't know the name but its Like "protein some thing". I wanted to do it just for piece in mind but I didn'tqualify and they don't do it for under 35. And my insurance didn't qualify me and it was $2000. U can look in to it. If u want I can ask the name if test from my Dr. It's just a simple blood test.

who lives in Owensboro had the same experience. Found out at the 20 week u/s that her daughter had a single vessel cord. She went to Vanderbilt for a Level 2 u/s. Everything turned out fine, and her daughter is now a healthy 4 year old.

Good luck to you! These bumps in the road are nerve-wracking.

(Posting this for info and for someone searching this in the future.)

In looking stuff up about SUA (single umbilical artery) I found this:

"More recent studies have shown that babies with isolated SUA do not appear to be at any greater risk for poor growth than the fetus with a normal three vessel umbilical cord [17-19]. In addition, one large study of 255 patients with SUA did not find an increased risk for stillbirth in fetuses with SUA. However, this study was not able to determine if serial testing might have been responsible for preventing potential stillbirths and the reduced rate of stillbirths in the fetuses with SUA ."

http://www.obfocus.com/high-risk/birthd ... artery.htm

Or this:
http://www.whattoexpect.com/pregnancy/a ... -cord.aspx

Plus TONS of posts about people who were fine.

Thanks all for you kind words,
Feeling better but we'll see how it goes.
