The Baby Innocence Homicide
On April 20th, 1984, the body of a newborn Caucasian male child was found by several children playing along the banks of the Seine River near the CNR mainline bridge in the vicinity of Notre Dame Street and Nadeau Avenue in St Boniface.

The baby's body was found in a shallow grave near the waters edge and was partially exposed as a result of the spring run off. The baby was likely buried there in the late fall of 1983. It appears that the baby was a newborn and was birthed shortly before his death and burial on the river bank.

A white male in his early 20's was spotted in the area in the late summer or early fall of 1983 carrying an infant child, but he has never been identified.

It is obvious that the death of Baby Innocence was not an act of cold blooded murder. It appears that his passing may be the tragic consequence of a situation deemed overwhelming and hopeless by a young couple who felt there was no other option. Perhaps it was a feeling of shame or embarrassment, or perhaps a feeling of helplessness born out of emotional, financial, or situational circumstances that lead to this desperate act.

Many years have passed since the death of Baby Innocence, yet neither his mother nor his father has ever been identified. Though the destiny of Baby Innocence is known, his potential will forever remain a mystery. Baby Innocence would now be 23 years old.

If you have any information about this case, please contact Crime Stoppers at 786-TIPS (8477), or e-mail Sgt. Al Bradbury and Det. Jon Lutz of the Cold Case Homicide Unit.
