Many countries are proud to call themselves Democratic, but are they? Here's a survey...

First, the top 10 Democratic Countries:

1) Norway
2) Iceland
3) Sweden
4) New Zealand
5) Denmark
6) Ireland (Tie)
6) Canada (Tie)
8) Australia
9) Finland (Tie)
9) Switzerland (Tie)

The Rest of the Pack
The oddest thing that hits me about the list is that apart from Australia,
all the countries in the Top 10 are either Cool, Mountainous, or both, all of which may be the same thing...
I wonder why?

The US is not a Democracy. It's a democratic republic. I don't think there is a true democratic country in the world.

A classic Democracy, with direct input from every citizen?

I suspect that you're correct.

Yes they are - seem to have been that way since at least WWI.

I'm just not sure why.

Because they actually make an attempt to take care of their residents.
