Battling in the Fighting environment requires both mental and physical balance. Across the field, various short, rock pillars are situated nearby each other as stepping stones. These 'platforms' are narrow and have just enough space to allow a semi-large pokemon to stand firmly on two feet without falling off. Maneuvering through this environment requires the pokemon to leap from pillar to pillar swiftly and precisely in the same way an experienced fighter would control their body. Slipping through the cracks should one fall off the pillars is not a long drop, nor is there anything particularly dangerous in the wide gaps. However there is a heavy mud substance that will cling to the pokemon even when it crawls its way back out. This substance therefore will make the pokemon heavier and slow it down in a stadium that requires mobility. The substance is also slippery and makes it that much more difficult to remain steady on the various platforms.

Yuki stood in the dark hallway waiting for is queue to get onto the battlefield. Now normally, Yuki didn’t really do this thing you call “stress” however, it seems that all the nerves he had been ignoring for the past two weeks decided to do the salsa on the hot dog he had an hour ago.

He put one of his headphones in his right ear. Yuki was trying to clear his mind from everything around him; a task normally he didn’t need to put very much effort into. Pressing the play button on a song he knew would work.

There it was. He closed his eyes, allowing the beat and the guitar to just fill him. The song was excellent for converting his nerves into energy. Last time he played this song at the start of a battle was his battle against Rin. The Ghost Gladiator had been his toughest battle yet. But him and Abra managed to scrape by with a victory. Since then He worked with Abra, Working with new combinations to use his Teleport and Hidden power. He’d hoped that Abra would evolve by the time he got here, but apparently fate decided otherwise.

A growl came from his side, breaking his little music trance. Tybalt sat at on the ground by his side. The Growlithe he rescued from Anbauer poked yuki in the leg with his snout. Pokémon can feel the nerves and emotions of their trainer. And while Yukimaru wasn’t even his trainer, Tybalt still could sense Yuki’s nervousness. ”Ya, Ya, I hear ya.” Yuki said. He took a deep breath, letting all of that anxiety go. Naturally, he couldn’t get rid of absolutely all of it, but it was enough that it shouldn’t affect his ability to battle. ”Thanks Tybalt.” he said, kneeling down to pet the top of the Growlithe’s head. ”Once we’re done here, we can get you back to Bianca in Eisenbahn.” Tybalt gave a happy bark in response and gave Yuki a little nuzzle. Even on the eve of his battle, Yuki was still thinking of his promise to Tybalt.

”And Now Here’s our first Battler!” The Announcer’s voice rang out through the coliseum and the waiting area where Yukimaru stood. Looks like his time was here. He was told to only head out when his name was called. He filled out a little questionnaire form about what he wanted his announcement to be. It wasn’t much, just saying that he was a Psychic trainer from Schiff. Nothing too fancy… ”He’s a powerful young trainer coming from Schiff Harbor, hair white as snow but a stare black as coal, Making his Debut as a Psychic Trainer. Everyone welcome… YUKIMARU!”

… uuhh… What?

That was certainly not what he had written down on the card. Yukimaru stumbled a bit as he entered the coliseum, completely confused from his “introduction”. His Eyes weren’t that dark… sure, they were dark.. but “Black as coal stare” was a bit harsh… He tried his hardest to act cool as he walked to his spot, but with the roaring crowd that was incredibly hard.

Yukimaru and Tybalt reached his block in the trainer section and stood there gaping at the crowd. The song hit the second chorus, the lyrics were perfect for this moment. Now he was Number one, Shining bright in front of everyone. This was his dream, to battle in the coliseum as a powerful trainer, to become a champion. His smile grew wide, now he was beaming. He raised his hands, opening himself up and accepting their praise. He did one slow turn, his eyes scanning the entire crowd. Even though he knew it was unlikely that he’d see her, Yukimaru still tried to find Aiya in the massive crowd.

The song ended right as the Announcer began to go about His Opponent’s Introduction, so he only caught some of it. The man started walking out when the next song began playing, and the way shuffle would have it, it was a villain theme from a movie he watched as a kid. The timing of this song shook Yukimaru to the core, bringing back some of the nerves he had before. However, it wasn’t being a detriment, the nerves helped him focus. He needed whatever wits he could muster for this battle.

Yuki stood at his trainer block and reached around to his back. He grabbed the first miniature Pokéball in the slots. He raised his arm to the side, only once fully extended did he release the compression mechanism, expanding the Pokéball to the size of a softball. He flicked his wrist, tossing the ball vertically back towards him, and catching it again with his hand. Yuki threw the Pokéball like a throwing knife, starting from his left shoulder and calling out his Pokémon.

”ABRA! TIME TO FIGHT!”

Jace stood in the Colosseum's waiting area nearest to his trainer's block with an irritated expression across his face. Wundt and Freud, his twin hypno, stood a few feet behind their trainer in silence.I wish they wouldn't take so damn long with these introductions.. He began pacing back to forth in annoyance. It's not like I don't have better things to do than dance on their strings. He continued on like that until the doors to the Colosseum arena began to open.

As soon as the first glimpse of light began to show between the opening doors Jace's usual smile donned his lips. It was overly exaggerated, and down right disturbing to most who have met him personally. Anyone with half a brain could tell at first glance there was something wrong with the man, but behind that smile, an expertly crafted facade perfected over a lifetime, no one could actually get a read on what he was really thinking.

Jace entered the arena field and heard the announcer utter some nonsense about "One of the Kommandant's greatest minds" for his introduction, and he gave a glance up to the Krone's personal sky box. I wonder if that bitch is up there... I'll bet she is; sitting behind her bulletproof tinted glass, and watching just to make my life hell later. The glance lasted only a moment, and was ended with a smug, overly exaggerated, closed-eyed smile directly toward the Krone he was sure was watching.

When he reached the top of his trainers block Jace watched Freud, the participant of this battle, make his way to the starting position of the Fighting-Type arena. Wundt stayed with Jace, and stood slightly behind his trainer. Finally Jace locked eyes with his opponents "coal black stare", and gave a slight chuckle as the boy released his abra from its pokeball. "Well are we ready to begin yet?.

Okay. That was creepy as hell…

The new song in tandem with his opponent’s creepy grin, and the two Hypno who moved so in sync it was like they were a mirror of eachother, It would send a chill down anyone’s spine. Out of his opponent’s introduction. The only word he could make out was “madant”, which Yuki assumed belonged to “Kommadant” which means, great. He’s fighting a kommy. The very thing he wanted to do this week.

Oh we must have mixed up “fight a Kommadant” with “Anything else”.

Yuki sent out Abra, the quieter part of the song being drowned out by the crowd. The sound of a Pokéball opening was followed by the white light zooming out in front of him. The light formed a sphere on one of the pillars and revealed the Orange Psi Pokémon, Abra. Yukimaru was super received to see an Absence of Abra’s Snot Bubble, meaning that his partner was completely awake.

This was the first time Yukimaru actually paid attention to the field. The pillars were definitely big enough for both Pokémon to stand on at the same time. And the fall between them wasn’t super huge, but Yukimaru couldn’t tell what the brown stuff at the bottom was. Either way, he felt like it was best to not fall in.

His opponent called out, snapping Yuki back into fight mode. ”Oh We’re Ready!” Yukimaru called out in response. Time to nest those new techniques they practiced back in Anbauer. ”Abra! Let’s start things off with Hidden Power! Follow it up with Kamehameha!”

Someone really needs to give him lessons on naming things…

Abra began glowing a light green as it jumped into the air. Abra curled around as he concentrated his power around him. Green and purple orbs began appearing around Abra’s body. As Abra Extended his hands the Orbs was sent at Hypno at a downward angle.

This move was easily dodged, and if taken, noticeably weaker than you’d expect from a Super Effective move. But that was the point. Abra Began Glowing Green once agin, Hoever, He held his arms to the side, focusing his power in between his hands rather than around him. Many more, tinier, spheres began appearing between his hands, It seems that he was about to unleash another attack when Suddenly He was gone in a flash of white light. Teleport.

Wherever Hypno may be, Abra would appear behind him, and unleash is hidden power in a cone in front of him, the more condensed balls surely packed a punch especially since they had a ghost affinity. And this time there were more of them, traveling in a beam-like path from Abra’s Extended Hands. If anyone watched the same show Yuki did as a kid, it really did look like the Kamehameha.

After Yuki threw out his pokeball The abra appeared and stood on one of the platforms. When the pokemon materialized Freud's FOREWARN ability allowed him to read moves the abra could execute. His telepathic voice ran through Jace's mind. "This little one has a HIDDEN POWER within him."

His pokemon's voices in his head were always an annoyance to Jace, but this news actually caused the smile across his face to grow. "I'm glad to see that he brought something other than teleport to the table. Hopefully this will be less boring now."

The boy shouted out his first commands to his pokemon. "Abra! Let’s start things off with Hidden Power! Follow it up with Kamehameha!"

And so it began. The abra leaped into the air, and began to glow as several purple orbs began winding around its body. It then extended its hands, and the orbs shot out towards Freud. 1) The attack was fairly slow moving considering the distance it had to cover before it made contact, and with a word from his trainer Freud easily dodged the attack by jumping to an adjacent pillar.

After Freud had safely landed on the other pillar he looked back to the abra, who had just finished charging another HIDDEN POWER. Just as it seemed the abra was about to release its attack it blinked out of existence in a flash of white light. The teleport was easily anticipated. It was an abra. It's what they do. Where the abra would re-appear was a different matter entirely.

As fate would have it the abra appeared right behind Freud and unleashed a second, conical blast of its HIDDEN POWER that covered most of Freud's upper body within the attack. Both Freud down on the arena floor, and Wundt standing next to Jace on the trainer's block let out a sharp cry of pain as the attack made contact. After a moment the attack subsided, and revealed Freud to singed by the attack, but still on his feet. Jace immediately called out his counter attack without a single thought to the well being of his pokemon.

2) After a second to regain his bearings Freud would attempt to crash is skull into the much smaller abra's using a HEADBUTT, because nothing hinders psychich ability quite like a headache.3) Immediately after the HEADBUTT Freud's eyes would glow a pale yellow as he attempted to blast the, hopefully, dazed abra with his CONFUSION. All of this however is assuming the abra doesn't manage to teleport away beforehand.

”Ya! You Did it!”

Yuki threw his fist in the air, full of excitement and energy from landing his combination. While his eyes saw the other Hypno react to the damage, his mind still hadn’t registered it. His mind wasn’t doing much of anything right now, even the music playing in his ear was being ignored. He had no idea that he just showed his best card way too early in the match. Yuki was acting purely on instinct at the moment.

The Hypno lashed back out with a Headbutt. It was fast enough that Yuki wasn’t able to call out a dodge until Abra was already struck. Abra went flying backwards, about to fall into one of the spaces in between pillars. ”Abra! Get out of there! Teleport!” Yuki called, quickly reminded to keep away from whatever that brown sludge was.

Abra raised its head as he flew back. He sensed an attack coming; Confusion. ”Ab..” A tiny grunt was all that was left when Abra disappeared in a flash of light, reappearing outside of Hypno’s range. Scientists discovered why Abra were always good at teleporting away from attacks. They discovered that Abra had Telepathic powers, small ones that can sense an oncoming attack even while Abra slept. Once sensed, all Abra can just Teleport away from danger. However, such a defense mechanism still had its limits. If the opponent was faster than Abra’s Senses, they could still strike before it flees.

”Alright! Nice one Abra!” Yuki called out when Abra reappeared. He looked at the battle, his mind trying to absorb as much information as it can…. Which resulted in a chorus singing “Corn on the kebab” . He shook his head of the distraction. Time to go back on offense. ”Abra! Let’s go with the Basics! Round a’bout! Teleport!

Abra understood his trainer’s goal. Round a’bout was almost always their starting move. Abra was meant to teleport around their opponent, using his senses to dodge their attacks to tire them out. Once a movement was made, Abra would reappear to the very edge of their vision. Requiring them to physically turn to keep their eyes on him. The move was hitting many birds with a single stone, even though Yuki never consciously noticed it. It demonstrated the Trainer’s ingenuity to hit a Pokémon who keeps moving; how they deal with their teleporting. How they manage stress. Even shows Yuki what other moves the Pokémon knows. The Rounda’bout’s true purpose was information gathering.

Too bad Yuki was too stupid to realize this.

Jace raised an eyebrow at the boy's actions. Is he really celebrating a single hit? Celebrating at any point prior to your actual victory was nothing short of foolish in Jace's eyes, and it didn't take long until Freud's HEADBUTT ended the boy's celebration. Although the abra did manage to teleport out of the way before his follow up CONFUSION attack.

The abra re-appeared in front of its trainer, but it was immediately ordered back out by the boy. The abra began disappearing and reappearing around Freud in, what his trainer referred to as, the round about teleport. Freud began to turn attempting to follow the abra's teleportations, but after the first few he was stopped by his trainer.

"Why don't you think for a second, and let me keep an eye on things." From his elevated trainer's block Jace had a clear view of most of the battle terrain, and he could easily keep an eye on the the abra's movements with little more than a drifting glance. After the command from his trainer Freud faced foreward as the abra blinked in and out of existence around him, all the while waiting on his next order.

Jace began to do what he did best, studying the abra's behavior. He watched as the pokemon teleported constantly noting distance, duration, and any pattern that it might be using. A battle terrain such as this helped greatly, and the fact that there were specific stepping stones where the pokemon could stand cut down significantly on the number of places the abra could appear.

1) After a few teleportations if Jace could determine any discernible pattern in the abra's teleportations he would direct Freud, in anticipation of its next appearance, to focus his disable on where the abra should appear. Freud's eyes would glow a pale yellow color. If the abra would re-appear where Jace directed it would find itself surrounded in a similar yellow light, and would be unable to teleport again.

How long is this song anyway?

As Abra kept teleporting, Yuki’s mind eventually began to wander. His mind briefly took notice of the same repetitive duh duh dududuh that seemed to have been on repeat for the past 2 minutes. He snagged a look at the song; 4 minutes long. That’s why. Best to just try to skip the song while Abra was doing his thing….

”Disable”

Fuck! His opponent’s orders snapped him back to reality as he changed the song. Disable, A common move for psychic types to know and honestly the biggest counter to Abra. Yuki had to think fast. React in time. ”Abra! Quick! Use Hidden power!” Yuki hoped that He could get Hidden Power Disabled rather than his teleport. Yuki would rather take Abra’s Mobility over his ability to do damage. They survived so long without Hidden Power anyway, if it got disabled it wouldn’t even be that much harm. Best-case-but-more-likely-miracle scenario Hidden Power struck before Hypno could even use Disable.

Abra appeared in the normal flash of white light. He began to glow yellow. Was that His Hidden Power? Or was that the Disable? No…. Hidden power was light green…

Sure enough, the Yellow Aura began to change to a light green. The Green Aura then erupted into a bunch of glowing spheres around Abra. The Orange Pokémon crossed his arms in front of him, concentrating the spheres forward, and with a flick of the arms, the Hidden Power spheres hurled at Hypno.

”Abra! Can you get away?” Yuki called out, needing to double check that Teleport was out of the question. He bit his lower lip in anticipation, watching as his partner lower his head in concentration. Abra tried with all it’s might, willing itself anywhere just as it normally did; but to no avail. The Pokémon raised its head and shook it, giving his trainer the answer.

Damn… Yuki thought, sliding his thumb over his nose to scratch an itch. If Hypno attacked at this time, Yuki would call for a dodge. However, due to Abra’s pitiful speed while on foot, It would have made contact. I need to either defeat him quickly before he makes use of my lack of mobility and destroys me. OR I can just stall it out until It wears off…

Yuki called out to Abra, giving his next orders. ”Abra! Hidden Power again! Keep Hypno Away!”

Abra once again began glowing green, going through the same motions as earlier. This time, it aimed to keep Hypno from advancing. Aiming for a wider attack towards the feet rather than a clump towards the chest. But it wouldn’t matter much. Without their Teleporting this battle will be a tough one.

Jace's strategy went off flawlessly. The abra teleported into Freud's DISABLE, and the psi pokemon was surrounded by a yellow aura that would negate its ability to teleport away. The aura from Freud's attack, however, would be quickly overshadowed by the abra's own green aura from its HIDDEN POWER. As it seemed to always be in Jace's life, he solved one problem just to have it replaced by another. The abra could no longer teleport and therefore its maneuverability was severely limited, but now all it had left was an attack.

1) Jace ordered Freud to dodge the incoming HIDDEN POWER, and the hypno jumped onto a pillar to his left. Freud did have ranged techniques of his own. HYPNOSIS, however, was most effective at close range, and Jace knew Freud's CONFUSION wouldn't be very effective against the abra.

Jace was not willing to risk a shootout while his pokemon was at such a disadvantage. If there was one thing he hated it was his opponents having the upper hand. He called out to Freud to advance on the psi pokemon, and the hypno made it across two of the pillars, closing a bit of the distance between them, when another HIDDEN POWER made contact. The super-effective attack managed to sweep Freud's legs out from under him, which sent him down into the muck below.

The hypno clambered back onto the pillar, struggling with the slipperiness and the added weight of the mud. Jace spoke softly to his pokemon while it climbed out, his smile never leaving his face, but the irritation in his voice was unmistakable. "Why don't you try sending an attack his way for once? Use CONFUSION until you're close enough to HEADBUTT!"

2) Freud took off once again hopping from pillar to pillar. The muck was slowing him down. It was noticeable, but not significant. Occasionally as he advanced his eyes would glow the same pale yellow they had before. Freud would attempt to use his psychic attack to both damage the abra, and distract it while he approached.

3) Finally if Freud managed to close the distance between himself and the abra he would bear down upon it. He would attempt to slam his skull into the abra's in hopes that his HEADBUTT would cause the psi pokemon to flinch, thereby creating another opening with which to attack.

”Abra! Keep away from him until the Disable wears off!”

Abra attempted to jump back and forth around the stage. However his movements were slow. Abra rarely moved to begin with and this physical exertion was something he wasn’t used to in the slightest. However, he was doing better than expected. From the speed that Hypno dodged his attacks, Abra assumed that the distance would be closed by now. Odd… As Abra backed away he stopped as his eyes landed on the mud still stuck to Hypno. That was when the pieces fell into place. The Mud reduces our speed.

However, That slight pause would be his undoing. Hypno’s eyes flashed green as another green glow began to appear around the orange Pokémon. Confusion landed, however, even though the damage wasn’t severe, the psychic attack was able to hold him down so Hypno could close the gap and hit him with another head butt.

”Dammit” Yuki grunted as Abra flew into the mud, he thought for sure Abra was going to get away that time. But this wasn’t the time to focus on the damage he’s taken so far. He needed to strike hard and to strike fast if he couldn’t stall by dodging he was just going to blast Hypno away.

The song changed, and while Yuki was mostly drowning out the previous one, the hard guitar in the beginning zoned him back in. It pumped him up. He was ready to push back with all he had. ”Abra! Counter attack! Hidden power!”

Abra didn’t bother getting out of the mud, he pressed his back against one of the pillars and began his attack; sending the glowing spheres right at Hypno’s chest. Hit or dodge, he could hear his trainer’s orders. ”Keep it up Abra! Hidden power Again and again!”

Abra understood Yukimaru's plan, however it was easier said than done. He was running out of energy and he hadn’t slept that day either. But he couldn’t sleep now. Not while he couldn’t teleport. He used the power he could muster, firing another set of hidden power spheres wherever Hypno may be. However, that was all that was left in him at the moment. He needed more energy. He needed his teleport back. Just a bit more. Not long now before they can move and win this battle.

”We Will win this. No matter what”
