I am looking for my first Panerai. I see that white dial watches are still being made but almost always people buy the black or brown dial watches. Why is there no love for the white dial watches?

I was told that it's possible that the white dial is more for women (to go with color straps to match their purses or shoes) where men tend to prefer darker dials to go with their suits...

Do you think it's unwise for the first Panerai to be a white dial?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

you are right... you have some folks that will show some white dial love, but the vast majority is black dial love. For me, the white dial historic models just don't look right to me, particularly the white dialed Base. Unlike the 112 (or whatever number it is now), the white dialed base just falls flat for me. I think the white dialed models look much better as chronographs. I would definately consider a white dialed Daylight!

Anyway, buy what you like!

Also. Doesn't stand out as much if worn to work.

I don't see any problem with the white dialed model. Looks close to the Rolex Explorer II model

Do you like the white dial? Maybe you can swing a better deal with the retailer.

Buy it if keeping for the long run. If your on the fence. Go with a black dial as it will be easier to sell if you want to sell and replace with another model

I have a white dial Datejust (36mm) and I have a white dial Speedmaster moonphase (42mm) and love them both. I have not sold any watches (and probably should but that's a problem for another day).

I am looking at a previous loved 113. To me, I would have thought there would be more love for the white dial as it goes with straps of any colors whereas I would have thought for black, some work better than others.

The older white dial models remind me of a swiss army watch I had... And loved...in high school. But I can't get past that looking at panerai.

Love the black, even more the blue.

First one though I would go cleaner black dial

There used to be a guy on another forum, whose name can't be mentioned, that was a huge white dial fan, and he used to post lots of great pics. His Network 54 name was "Coach" I think. Not sure if the search functionality is working, but try searching for his old posts for inspiration. I remember he even had an OP tattoo on his leg. He was all in! Bums me out that we have so few of us old timers left.

Oh well!

...everyone has their preference. For me, I like my only white dial during the summer more than any other time of year.

If I had to choose between black and white, it would be black, but my white dial is one of my favorite pieces, but it's a beautiful creamy SlyTech 225.

I have to say that new 654 is plenty sexy!

But admittedly, if I were only going to have a single PAM, it wouldn't be a white dial. Still, love this combo:

Congrats on your first PAM!
A great choice for your first Panerai.

True, most 'Risti are drawn to the black dial, but "most" Risti won't be wearing Your new PAM.

I've had black, white, brown, blue, gray, copper, silver dials (Panerai and others).
Enjoyed them all for what they gave me personally.
Hope you enjoy your new PAM every time you put it on!

Congrats on your 113. I love my 114.

White dial is nice when you want something that's not seen as often, not like Panerai is often seen (at least not as common as Rolex or Omega), and they are not for every one.
