#10 : Pam 249 vs Pam 294

Exactly the same body, bezel, plexiglass, movement, winding crown and case back... only the dial, hands and the millesimation differ between these two Radiomir of a 47 millimeters diameter.

When the Pam 249 is an original model shown at the SIHH 2006 as a Special Edition of 1936 units and 12 OOR ( *1 ) later, the Pam 294, Special Edition / Micro Edition 2010 of 49 units available through the boutiques only, takes the all the casing of the Pam 249 and the dial and the hands of a model released in the same time than the 249 : the Pam 232.

Both are a base ( *2 ) model, when the Pam 249 carry a California dial the Pam 294 have a formal 3 - 6 - 9 - 12.

They are the same watch ... they share the same OP number....

The movements :

Pam 249 & 294 :

Movement: hand-wound mechanical, exclusive Panerai OP X calibre, 16½ lignes, 17 jewels. Glucydur® balance with Nivarox® I spring, 21,600 alternations/hour. Incabloc® anti-shock device. Power reserve 56 hours. Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges.

Functions: hours and minutes.

Some personal comments:

With for only differences the dial and the hands and disregarding the rarity of the 294, according to the fact that these two watches are between the most well realized and accurate in many parts to the vintages the only possibility is to decide on a classical dial and another which could look like an ufo as such as it is not commun.

It would be easy to say that initially the Pam 232's would be such as is the Pam 294 but then, both models would they not do too much shade to each other ?

How many Panerai models, or even how many watches in the worldwide production can be unbranded like the Pam 249 is ?

Opus vs Facere ??

Thanks for watching

*1 : OOR :
Out Of Range, in the first case these watches are at the start one shadow which served in shows and displays ... the factory reuses these watches by adding them a caseback with a special engraving : the letter of the millesimation is replaced by OOR. There is no OOR who is a specific watch : they were all made from already existing models, neverthless some have some differences regard to the benchmark model; ex : Pam 02 and 61 OOR has the movement which was then put in the Pam 112 and the 118 in the E serie ( The new OP XI instead the OP II ), the pam 194 OOR has an improved bezel ...
In the second option we can considere that the factory uses some available parts and make a few more models.

*2 : BASE :

the Cali. Do you think that the Cali "looks" smaller than the 294?
The only issue I have with the Cali is that it is a "small" looking 47MM.
I think this is due to the yellowish\goldish ring around the numbers.
With the 232/294 having a cleaner dial and without the ring,
this to me make these 2 watches seem bigger than the 249.

thanks

30 meters, no more ... is their water resistance.

They are the same watch ... they share the same OP number....

The same movement too.

*2 : BASE :
Is a watch with the most simple feature, hours and minutes. A base also have only two hands.

*3 : OPUS FACERE:
From the latin opus stands for work, labor, to work and facere is the present active infinitive of facio which transleted wants to say to make
Wonderful post as always! Thanks for sharing! :-) (nt)

With all these editions they almost made it, near but far...

Plexiglas + solid caseback = vintage,,,,

Glad they didn't do it though

Cheers and best from the holyland,
