I'm a big fan of the 351/352. I think you get so much bang for the buck with the 352 in particular: When compared to the 312, the brown dial is sublime and for me, beats the 312.

The Titanium makes me want the 351 for the lightness factor but the Black Dial on the 312 is what keeps pulling me towards the 312.

In terms of a modern Panerai, I don't think it gets better than the 312. The dial is perfect. Perfect shape, perfect detail, perfect proportions. You can wear it with an Ammo, a rubber strap, black or brown calfs, sharks, snakes, crocs, everything. The SS just feels nice on the wrist. Heavy and solid. As a past owner I can tell you that another 312 is in my future.

The 351 is more of an SE model for me. It's titanium with brown dial and gold hands. It's a little more refined. At first glance its gorgeous and stays that way....but somehow I feel it is more special occasion than everyday awesome. As a past owner of a 176, I appreciate the lightness of Titanium. As a current owner of a 390, I definitely appreciate the brown dial and gold hands. You do, however, need to be more exacting with your strap choices when using a watch with titanium, brown and gold all in the picture.

For me, the everyday usability of the 312 wins it.

All depends on your bias. Do you prefer steel or titanium? I've owned a 312, nice watch but I knew I'd made the wrong choice as soon as I saw the 351/352 the following year. I've loved titanium cases since I had my very first Panerai a 282, getting the 312 just confirmed something I really knew already, I just don't like the weight and way steel wears compared to titanium. But in my defence I'd been seduced by the sandwich dial and exhibition case back.

Then it's the bracelet or not question. My feelings on the new design are mixed, I think it will grow on me over time but it's no show stopper unlike it's predecessor. If they were offered at the same price I'd probably go for the 352 but I'd be disinclined to pay a premium for the new style bracelet. It's meh and insipid whereas the old style pushes all my buttons.

I'm not fantastically wealthy and successful, Panerai are one of my guilty pleasures, finances permitting. I sold the 312 about a year ago and have been without a watch since then but business has been surprisingly good over the last few months so I decided that I could afford to treat myself. I began searching the internet firmly focussed on a 351/2 but happened to find by accident a 279 at a price that was so low I was compelled to email the dealer straight away to find out if it was a mistake. It wasn't and now it's mine!

I'm not sad that I didn't end up with a 351/2, the screw-less design of the titanium bracelet on the 279 is utter perfection, the classic case and all the aspects of the watch are a treat for the senses. I'd still like a 351, it's a lovely watch but I'm also starting to be drawn towards a Radiomir so who knows what I'll be able to find .... next year if I'm lucky.

My vote is for the 351

Peace

Personally i dislike titanium watches. I've had them before, the "lightness" makes it feel less "real" to me.
I like the idea of a SS watch and it's heft.
Pick up the 312 and i feel like it's a mans watch.
312 for me.
