On and off, for over a year now, I've been trying to find information about the special 209 model that I have. Here is a picture
[/IMG]

The model 209 was made in a run of 300 pieces. Most of these have a generic Panerai dial, but a few were made with this more detailed dial with faceted steel hour markers instead of lume paint, and minute markers where the regular dial has none.

I'd like to find out more about this special dial run within the limited 209 run. I'd like to know how many of these fancy dials they made in the 209 run. I was not even aware that there were two different dials in the 209 run until the dealer I was buying it from found out during the sales transaction and raised the price on me just before I paid (Element in Time NYC - I will always be pissed off at them for that). I still got an OK price though.

Thanks,

Gary

was replaced by the PAM209
So it's not a 'special' dial for the 209 but just when they changed the reference in G series form PAM165 to PAM209 some of the 209's got the last of the 165 dials

I also note you state 300 units but the records I have say 400

I have always thought the number was 400. But today, on your own websit data chart, it says 300. See here http://www.paneristi.com/reference/sort ... index.html

Also, I have read that the 209 turned out be very very expensive to manufacture, I think because of the bracelet but I am not sure, and that Panerai did not complete the 209 to the target 400 pieces.

How can it be that if the watch back says 400, that means only 200 were made??

But I also see what is going on here. I have the 165, not the 209. My year designator is F for 2003. The dealer sold it to me as a model 209, one of the few (if any) that used up the remaining dials from the 165.

So which watch is more coveted, the 165 or the 209? I do like the 165 dial better.

.... that 400 had to be made? LOL!

Panerai stops production on many watch runs prematurely. You really think there are 1500 339's out there? LOL!
