The 305 is 47mm while the 87 is only 44 and I prefer the larger version, plus the 87 has a blue dial while the 305 is in the classic black and I just don't think the blue dial is as sharp looking. The 87 does have its pluses though as it is 1000m vs 300m and the 87 is ss vs the titanium 305, if you really want a 1000m sub in ss go for the 64. I also feel that because of the 64 the 87 will never be appreciated fully. If the 87 sings to you though more than the 305 then I would just hold out for a 64, which I think is the best looking PAM out there( I do own a 64 so I am biased). Just my opinion-MIKE

Really glad you asked this.
I have contemplated this very same choice for quite some time.
While I know many are quick to rush to the 305 or 64, the 87 does deserve strong consideration.
For those who have seen them in the flesh, both dials are mesmerizing. I can't even make up my mind on that one -- as I like both for different reasons.
I think either of those dials makes the tritium really pop -- and the 87 does have "T" baby.
As for the 305, it is a really well designed 47MM sub.
My issue is the Titanium. I love the look, but when i strap on a 47MM watch I don't want it to feel lighter than my 44MM watch. Its just a psychological thing I struggle with.

They should be fairly evenly priced. If future value is important to you then either an 87 or a 64 are a better bet -- but that would not be part of my consideration.

In the end -- follow your heart. Seems to me you want to move on from the 305, but still want a sub.

If that's the case -- I vote for the 87.

The 371, with it you'll have the best from the two worlds ..
- the comfort of the 305 and the presence on the wrist of the 47mm
- the blue dial of the 087

The dial on the 87 is a bit to busy for me and the addition of the cyclops date window just doesn't do it for me. The 305 is much cleaner looking, I prefer the black dial and a the 47mm is the perfect size for a sub. Just my 2cents.

I don't own either. I opted for the 187. But have tried the 87, and liked it a lot..... There is a predictable bias for anything 47mm though....

In the 305 you have a formidable watch. Why don't enjoying it to the full? Strap it to your wrist and be happy!

If you want a great deal? (discount) 305 a good choice. Buy one. Go from there. Things will make sense.

Just got my 87E today. I was in the same dilemma as you a few weeks ago. 305, 243 or 87.. I went with the 87 because I'm a blue guy. I think it's the best blue face for the buck. I thought I'd like the 243 but after trying one on, wasn't too crazy about the1950 case.. Just me. 305 is hot too but like I said I like blue. 87 from my on research is not for everybody. Those who have it love it. Not too many.. I'm rocking it while I type. So awesome!! I highly recommend you try on both if you can before you pull the trigger. Enjoy the hunt.

But it's a personal choice. I hate the date magnifier while I love 47mm and I love Ti. And I love the unique no numbers look of the 305 dial like the SLC rad dial. So go with which features you like the most.

...had the chance to own a 87d before and i flipped it for a 305 coz i noticed that hands of the 87d were showing signs of corossions ... a few months after i chanced upon a 87f which appeared a bit different from the d series because of its deep blue color and wg surrounds on its markers... i didn't hesitate...

...guess you know why...
