Been reading allot about the Seiko turtle. Starting to think I need one.

What do you guys think? Essential part of a fledgling collection? Not worth it?

Liking the srp775, black and gold.

Anyone have one they love?

Strap or bracelet? Or more of a NATO thing?

My preference is on a strap, I really don't like the turtle on a bracelet.

I have a 6306 from the late 70's and I love it. Been trying to find the right modern version but as of yet nothing inspires me.

I wasn't even thinking about the vintage market. Good place to start.

Search for 6309 or 6306 or better still the 6105's. I have a 6105-8000 which is a great fit for my as it's a smaller case but the real interest seems to be in the 6105-8110 which has a funky asymmetrical case and big time movie credentials (Apocalypse Now).

IMHO, Seiko (and Grand Seiko) watches provide some of the best value at almost every price point.

Have had an SKX007 for a couple of years and love it. Great when you don't want to wear something pricey or showy, and all around great tool watches.

Also have a Grand Seiko hi beat GMT SBJ005 - incredible finishing - I can stare at the dial all day long.

I have a SRP 775 and like it for the price, but don't wear it often. I changed the bracelet to a Strapcode brushed, flat link shark mesh which I think accentuates the case shape and cut out lugs. The original bracelet just blended in with the case.

I also have a Blumo and a Baby Tuna SRP 639, but keep the Seiko's on bracelets since my four Panerai's cover my strap needs. I do think the Turtles look good on straps, again highlighting the case/lugs.

You should be able to get for a bit more than half that $400, so should be easy to get in under the radar.

Mike,

I think this is the Strapcode # for the bracelet I got. Looks amazing on it and great quality.

Now the problem is I would like to get a domed crystal, nicer bezel, and a ceramic insert.

Best,
Al

Seikos are great watches for the money. I have a SRP 775 and I love it! I wear it on a waffle strap and it sees a fare amount of wrist time. Also seiko has some new color combinations coming out for the turtle so check those out before you buy so as not to have any regrets concerning which one you like.
