Thanks for the response Phuman, what strikes you as being a fake?

As I said earlier, I am just trying to help a friend. Hopefully he didn't get taken for too much!

One of the worst fakes I have ever seen, nothing is right. A blind person must have been in charge of the duplication process.

Text, second hand, date window, date placement, hands, case, crown guard brushings, strap, movement.... if you google Panerai really quickly you can easily tell what a real one looks like.

Easy answer is, does that look like a $5000+ watch? Or like it should be cheaper than a Casio

Thats clearly a Unique Edition from the 2014 yet to be released prototype! Made in exclusive outer space new age material! Extremely light, durable and expensive to mine from Jupiter! Wow! I'm now blown away!

All joking aside,

WORST POSSIBLE FAKE!!!

I'm no expert so I can't say if it's real or not, you could always take it to an AD to verify. It would look better with an ammo strap on it though.

a "replica" that I bought for $20 in Patpong Night Market, Bangkok (even at that price, my wife told me I'd been had!).
Whatever you do, don't take it to an AD - that way you'll avoid huge embarrassment.
A very poor copy - I hope your friend didn't pay too much for it.
