the 372 with the sapphire of the 422?? I wish Panerai gave us the option with the 372. For me, sapphire would would have definitely made the 372 more "wearable".

Cheers,
Andy

If/when you have a 372, it's yours, you may do as you please with it. If you can source a sapphire, and it makes you feel good, swap away! From what I noticed the sapphire edge is a little more square than the plexi and I'm sure it will have a different transparency or "glow". From a warmer to a brighter clearer look. But I bet most wont be able to tell the difference, and perhaps not even you.

I really don't understand where this fear of plexi comes from. I have yet to see anyone give a single viable reason that sapphire is "better" than plexi.

As I've said before, I've never had a problem with a plexi-crystal. I've had to replace THREE sapphire crystals.

Not to mention the fact that there's about, oh I don't know... 14 trillion watches out there with sapphire... why do we need another one? Let the 372 be the 372, it's perfect exactly as it is.

I've had plexi scratch before (IWC portuguese 2000) but to be fair it does make things more interesting! Also you can get your plexi replaced for free (once) which I guess does count for something!

The 372 to me is so much more coherent and, well, special with the plexi. The look of the domed plexi gets me every time, and the warmth it gives the dial makes me smile. I guarantee many of those 422 and 423 owners are going to be asking the exact opposite question in about a year.

Just kidding. . . the 372 is already unique and the plexi is part of that.

I agree with Micah, it is perfect as is.

...don't buy the 372 as it's likely not for you. I don't mean this in a harsh way...but either you 'get it' about the signficance of the plexi, or you don't. And if it's not your cup of tea....then by all means search the brand for something that makes more sense for you. Or wait...it's bound to be made someday.

Personally, I think Plexi is sexy and agree with Micah. It's nice to have a watch that you can wear without concern, and to be able to buff out the minor scratches as you can with Plexi. Once you scratch a crystal...it's your to keep however. So to me, Panerai using plexi on a few pieces provides us with a great choice.

the 372 would not be outstanding or representative of the brand history.

I actually feel more comfortable wearing plexi than sapphire, if something crystal-related happens to plexi it's just the crystal that gets damaged, like you said at worst it cracks, not a huge issue since there's already a spare one in the box

If you bash sapphire good and hard though.... it shatters... who wants itty bitty bits of sapphire in their movement, all over the dial etc.?
