The buckle in the pic is a preV one.

Are the buckles of the PAV 98 the same as the preV buckle? Or a different material? How can one tell them apart?

Also for the preV pvd buckles, I've also seen different shades of black, which is again different from the rodiatura of PAV buckles. Is it just quality control issues or different batches/makers ?

Comments are much appreciated. Thanks

I got some photos of different buckle that you question...

Here's a shot of a PreV buckle on the ornil diver strap

[/IMG]

Here's on the PAV98

[/IMG]

Just in case you wonder on the PVD buckle as well

Here's the buckle on a PVD original PreV buckle

[/IMG]

And here's the buckle on the PAV91

Hope you'll get better explanation from the experts here

Best,

Sam

P.S. That strap/buckle looks familiar

As I learned from Dirk, that buckle from your Pre-V strap was made using a particular grade of steel.
It was a softer, high-nickel content alloy that was used for regular production buckles in 1993-1994.
These buckles were banned sometime in 1994 due to 1994-imposed regulations regarding skin allergies.
PAV 98 straps do in fact have the same buckle.
Other Pre-V buckles, which were made by the same company, are sometimes seen with a different, harder grade of steel (known as 316 SS).
Hope that helps a little!
