I had the huge pleasure of being invited to the gala dinner to celebrate the opening of Panerai's boutique in Singapore last night which also showcased some of the SIHH 2012 pieces. In my excitement, I forgot to bring a camera but the memories will live long ... a few quick PERSONAL impressions of some of the pieces ....

1. 398/399: They look even better in the flesh than they do online! Clearly the stars of the show. Funny thing was there was little difference in tone between them (could be the lighting). I also loved both straps.. the brown croc on the 398 was stunning as was the super thick vintage strap on the 399. A real pair of winners for sure. Now I am hoping that Panerai does a "more accessible" version in the years to come

2. My next favourite "pair" was the 449 and the 425. I have lusted for the 449 ever since laying my eyes on the 373 but what was surprising was that the 425 actually looks a bit better than the 449 in some ways if there was NO pig. Funnily the blue hands on the 449 seem more prominent in the photos than in real life. The other surprise to me was how pretty the 424 looked .... I did not expect to like it as much (due to the date and the historically dubious logo) but the dial design is fantastic. Everything comes together so nicely. A fantastic execution which I am now considering as well

And finally:

3. The 422 : this one, I was keen to see as I was curious how a 372 with side seconds would look like. Another beauty, but I think I would go for the 372, the cleaner dial seems to work better...

It was, overall a most excellent evening. Antonius and the team was fantastic hosts in every way. Was a blast hanging out with not just the "regular" SGRISTI crew (who GTG at least once a week!) but also other friends, guys that were in the Panerai scene way before us (cheers, bros!).... Many thanks again, Antonius and all the best to everyone!

And before I forget, the food was excellent. The 398 on the menu that night was the wagyu beef cheek main course... only a fork required, it was that tender. Unanimous star on the table yesterday

Thanks for reading this long winded post, and HAGWE everyone!

Jokes aside, the 2012 collection definitely looks better in metal than pix!

And great insight there bro

am rethinking that the 425 could look good with a pig too! And agreed on the 424. Strange how things can look so different in the metal...

Next looking forward to eyeballing the Singapore Boutique SEs!!!

I had a great time and delighted to see all the new pieces at one place.

Most importantly, the great company with ristis around at a well organized event by the Panerai teams.

Cheers,
