Hello fellow ristis,

Looking for some input. I've been bitten by the 47mm bug and love both the 422 and 305. Given the choice of the 422 or the 305, and not both, which one would you choose?

I know it is like apples and oranges since they are two different styles, but wanted to get some feedback. As a quick background, I work in an office setting (suit and tie) which would make the 422 a logical choice. However, since I wear the watch daily, I like the ruggedness of the 305 and it can look dressy with a change of the strap IMO.

Thanks,
Adam

then start saving for the 305! IMHO a Sub is an ideal 2nd watch, but wouldn't be my choice for an only watch.

On the other hand, if you are willing to buy 2nd hand and cost is a factor, you can buy a 305 for a few grand below MSRP and that will not be the case with the 422 right away, but probably will be in a few months.

I personally don't love the 422, so I'll inject my love the 372 into this scenario and put myself in your shoes.

372 is fantastic, can be rugged with daily use, dressy with the certain strap, and just looks right at home on a nice vintage with casual wear... I find myself to be a little too anal however with the high full polished case .... But such is life with any nice wath, they'll always tend to be polished or a majority of the watch anyway.

422 will be better for dress, will hold a better value and be sought after. You have to also look at these points, are you looking for more of an investment of it? Or who cares you just want to enjoy it? I'm sure both

305 is holding steady however, and is a beautiful watch... It's right at home in it's element on the beach, but surprisingly under a nice dress shirt with a beautiful burgundy croc or something in that category .. It's way more rugged and will withstand the daily abuse and accidental dings better..

Let's put it this way, my good friend who owns a Panerai boutique went back and forth for his next Panerai. He's always dressed nicely and was considering the 372 and 305.. We did strap changes on both, he contemplated all day (mind you he can have any piece he wants) and was wearing a composite radiomir which he didn't love , and wound up choosing the 305 on a Bordeaux calf strap... It looked beautiful

Good luck, no choice is a bad choice

Don't worry about ruggedness, the 422 is plenty tough

I thought about the 372 as well, but the plexiglass is what kills it for me. Yes, I know it is true to the DNA of the vintage Panerais.

Not really looking to have the watch as an investment, more for my own enjoyment.

Right now, I am leaning towards the 305 since it is a little more versatile and 422s on the secondary market will be cheaper later on. I guess these are good problems to have :D

I don't necessarily consider the 305 versatile - it's [also] a 47mm watch and pure quite the diver... the 422 will hit the secondary market but it's going to take some time... how much can we save on a NIB 372 today?

Don't get me wrong, the 305 is a hot PAM - the TitanioBronzo - hehe, but the 372/422/423 are really refreshing in terms of their new cases, the engraved writing, trit-patina, as well as nice nod to vintage not seen since the 217-217 combo...

Good luck with your choice, you certainly can't go wrong with either one!
