We're looking at changing things up a bit on PaleoPlanet, with the idea of combining or eliminating some of the least trafficked forums, so that a new visitor doesn't post a thread and go without a reply for days and days (or longer).  PaleoPlanet is organized just fine right now, and we can always get back to this format easily enough (as we will be archiving the old forums to retain the organization), but the admins want to experiment and see if this helps folks out at all.

For those of you who frequent this forum, we'd like your thoughts on combining the Artwork forum with the Photography forum.  The Photography forum is very slow these days, and some of the most recent posts are nearly a year old.  From a PaleoPlanet perspective, both forums are very similar, other than that the Artwork forum is more about hand work done by members.  With as little photography traffic as we get now, it is likely there will be few enough photography posts that they won't be annoying to those who would prefer the forums to remain separate.

Another idea would be to make Photography a sub forum of Artwork; but that wouldn't aid the experiment as much, as any visitors to Photography would still be seeing a "ghost town" when they showed up...

Please give us your thoughts and suggestions on this idea.

Thanks!

Ken

Hello, Ken! I don't have enough experience in forum organizing but the idea of combining two forums seems OK to me.

Thanks, Railgun.

We've archived the Photography forum, and now we're asking people to post their photos in General Discussion. We're thinking about doing the same with artwork. It may mean more views for what little that gets posted, and increase interest. If it doesn't work, we can change it back.

We'll wait about a week for any opinions and see what people think.

personally i think artwork should be more at the top under the general section, and pottery, basketry and fiber arts, as well as musical instruments should be a sub forum of artwork. as well as photography. there is alot that gets posted in various other p[laces that could be considered artwork but this section is so far down in the categories maybe not alot find it. if it was in the first section with other sub forums i think it would be alot more trafficked.

Photography could be pulled into Art, I wouldn't have a problem.

I think it might be easier to make the case for "Your Photo Of The Day," rather than wait to see images
that have been Photoshopped to Hello and back.

Still too timid to mess with posting pictures of my wood carvings but one of these days. . . . .

Being an artist, I like your idea of featuring the art in the General Section!
