Usually just about every third Sunday of the month (but check this thread to make sure something didn't come up that made us change the date) a bunch of folks get together at the Pasadena Roving Archers' range, in Pasadena, Ca. We generally gather at the tables under the trees just across the bridge across the aqueduct from the parking lot. If you get lost and find the practice butts, we are at the next set of tables and targets up the arroyo, maybe sixty yards.

A lot of people generally work on bows, but there are also other primitive skills being practiced from time to time, including flintknapping, atlatls, arrow making, wood carving, beading, and other handicrafts. From time to time we'll have an official atlatl competition (ISAC); but all in all it is very informal and unstructured.  People generally show any time after about 9am, and at any time during the day.  During summer, folks usually start leaving when it's time for dinner.  During winter, before sunset (the range closes at sunset).

Many people have made their first bow at these get-togethers, with the help of whoever is in the mood. If you'd like to try your hand at making a bow, you might like to sign in here and let us know you are coming, so we can bring a red oak board for you to work on. Or, you can find out on this forum how to select a red oak board, and bring your own.

We'll be updating this thread every month as to the exact date (there is often some discussion of who will be coming, and occasionally we change the date if there is a conflict with a range or city event). If you go to Past Events here on PaleoPlanet, you can look at old Pasadena threads to see what to expect. I suppose we can post links here to new photo threads after each event.

There's a good chance I will miss this one, too; but I'd love to come if I can. I had a great time at the special meet a week from yesterday!

I know I won't be able to attend but I'd like to ask a favor if I may...
If anyone sees Greg Mundorf please ask him to contact me. His arrows are ready and I have been unable to get in touch with him.

Thanks, Guy

I wish I could be there, but will be in Palm Springs/Indio for a lacrosse tournament. I had fun at the special gathering in honor of Henrik's visit. I had an absolute blast visiting with my old friends. It was also fun flintknapping again!

I'll stop by to get help on the bow that I've started. I hope to see others.

Happy Birthday to Diane!

Steve H., I hope I can make it. At this point, if I don't feel any better, I'll be staying home…

Ken,
I hope you feel better soon. With the smoke and ash from the fire, we may want to take a rain check. There was a bunch of ash on top of the cars in my driveway at home this morning. I live in South Pasadena.

Thanks, Steve!

I think I probably won't make it down tomorrow. Sorry! I sure had a great time at the special meet for Henrik, and I'm looking forward to the next time I can come. Hopefully next month?

I hope to make it next month. I was inside my garage and constructed a tillering tree from some scrap 2x4s. Its amazing what can be done with a table saw. I'll bring the tillering tree the next time.

I am definitely going go! I have my maple bow in progress. Can I borrow someone's tillering stick to check the poundage as well?

Just a quick note to say Thank You to all the enthusiastic beginners at yesterdays Bowyers Meet. I think at one time we had eight people working on board bows. Two got finished, the rest will be back next month or in May. I had a blast just did not get anything done on my bow.

Thanks again ... see you all next month
