OK this is great info I am getting a couple of bear skins from someone next spring I will add degreasing to the list of todo for the bear hides now.
I want to make a jacket out of them mainly for a test run and if that works I want to see about getting some buffalo hides for a jacket.

could they have used the wax method make it first out of wax then pack sand around and then cast with brass or copper or steel?

All I can come up with is boiling it to get the grease out but that may also dissolve the sinew but then you would have glue for what sinew you did degrease....

I left the bark on as i have had lots of trouble in the past taking it off right away and things drying to fast and very bad cracking I was even contemplating waxing the ends to help stop cracking but did not do that on this one so will see what it turns out when I get to it if its cracked bad I wil...

I guess you have tried a few drops of olive oil over a few days.
what did work for my dad as a kid was camomile tea a few drops a day for how long I dont remember but it really helped him.

I have used campfires for years to do my blacksmithing stuff I don't do it often but the point is I can when I want to I mainly just make knives for myself first fire I put in metal to soften it take it out the next day file or grind then make another fire and wait till the metal is red or yellowish...

it may have been one of the ways but I also think that they went the coastal route both east and west of the continent long before the corridor opened up.

For food how long would it take them to get through the corridor with kids/old and so on driving your food ahead of you would seem like the thing to do and just cuz someone says it would/could not be done I have heard that one before as I am sure you have also...
