I've decided to try my first English longbow tri-lam design. I've recently run low on my good backing material as I've used it on my last few American flatbows. Anyways on this bow I decided to use some ash for backing, this perticular piece of ash is decent grain except at one end of the tip about 6" down but I plan on keeping the tips static about 6-8" anyways. Keeping that in mind I'm aiming for a lower weight target bow, 40-45lbs. My dimensions are as followed, 3/8" ash backing, 1/16" actionboo core and 1/4" ipe belly all parallel to 68 3/4" long 1" wide at the handle. I've been considering adding a second 1/4" ipe lam to the belly to increase the poundage but I don't want to put too much stress on the ash as it's not very good grain. Any advise is welcome.
Thank you all.
