I just finished a hickory bow, 65" nock to knock. I was striving for over 60# at 28" but got 53#. It has already taken 3"of set. No finish has been applied yet. Can I now heat treat the belly and get some additional poundage? How about recurving the tips? This is my first experience with hickory. Actually, I've never used heat before. I know to use a heat gun on the belly, but can it also be used to recurve. The bow looks and shoots great and I don't want to mess it up, any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well, I've only done four bows with heat-treatment so far, 2 hickory and 2 elm. The treatment worked great, I had to retiller quite a bit to get poundage low enough. The key seems to be not getting it too hot, but heating for a long time. Scorching shouldn't be neccessary, too hot. I think it would work! I'm very impressed with heat-treating so far.
