The photo at the top of this forum, the guy on the right, where can a fellow get plans to make that thing that is holding his stave? I could be wrong but that thing looks handy.

I've altered this initial post title for purposes of putting the thread into the archery reference center. These are good links for others to use.

That gixmo is known as a "shaving horse" and plans are available online. A quick search should reveal a number of them.

I've never shaved a horse but what the heck I'll have a look around. Thank you for the information. The only real mistakes are the ones from which you learn nothing.

Wesley, thats my shaving horse and I love it, very easy to make if you have a skil saw or a bandsaw or tablesaw. Plenty of plans on line, I have built a few now and like this one best. If you can't find any plans i will photo copy mine and send them to you if you want one. Going by my plan the front leg came out short so re check that if you use my plans. Steve

I guess it's alright to say that there was a good set of plans in the second Issue (Vol.1 Issue 2, Fall 2005) of the Bowyers Journal magazine, that looks a lot like the one Steve is using in the Banner. I want to make one as soon as I can, as I have no good shop space at home.Bernie - "Hunters Are People Too"

Thank you one and all for the information. These are some of the most friendly and helpful people I have encountered. I love this site. I came here as a complete newbie. With the patience and helpfulness of the people here I think I have developed just enough knowledge to get started. Although chances are I have enough knowledge to get myself into trouble. Which I'm certain you folks will gladly help me out of.

Thank you allThe only real mistakes are the ones from which you learn nothing.

Hey all, here is a link to a very compact and portable shaveing horse. I started building one and as always my mind took over and I ended up with something quite different but with which I am very satisfied. Arko
