I've just made my first atlatl, I'm not really a weapon maker, more of an artist, but my husband makes primitive bows and arrows of Osage and we were hanging around at the barn. He's made a few traditional style atlatls and I've shot them and liked it, so I had a piece of mystery wood (possibly poplar, not sure) and I started wittling on it. I got the idea for a carved atlatl for use and asthetics. My atlatl is long and shaped like a feather, I carved a bird head out of antler and attached it at an angle to the end with sap "glue" and sinewed it on with hide glue. The beak of the bird is the point onto which you set the dart. I plan to add small feathers to it's head and when I get it finished I'll post a picture of it. Bye ya'll.
Sounds cool, send us a picture or post one please, thanks.
