I am more concerned about this web site, there seem to be a lack of interest and it is almost dead. It is dead compared to the pngscape web page. KSI, please wake up and do something about the lack of response and posting's on the so-called conference. We might as well pack it in and concentrate on our studies.
Good day

Thank you for the reminder. I guess you are right in that we have not posted any updates on the progress towards the proposed conference. Nevertheless, the conference organising committee has been fairly busy at work. But a number of issues and potential difficulties in a number of areas have got the best part of the committee's attention in the last two weeks.

Firstly, the dateline for scholars to indicate their interest to present papers at the conference lasped on the 31st of March. Apart from interest shown by students in Victora and the ACT, the others have not confirmed on time. subsequently, the committee has decided to resort to its plan B and that is to invite presenters both from PNG and other coalition partners on the SAP in PNG.

This does not meant students will not be given opportunities to make presentations. In some areas, dialogue have been established with potential scholars to make presentations while in others students will be identified to take leading role as discussants. A final arrangement to that effect will be posted if the invitees response is known sooner.

Secondly, there has been very little response by way of indication of student participation. Without having a total picture of the level of participation in terms of numbers, it is difficult to confirm accomodation, transport, child minding etc and of cause the final conference expenditure outlay.

The committee is mindful of student difficulties with travel expenses and thus, is doing all it can to subsidise cost and also probably, to make the visit to ACT value for money. This will be announce as soon as KSI deliberates and makes a decision on the committees budget proposal being finalised.

Nevertheless, the above issues and have been dealt with at length and has been brought to the attention of KSI executives. We are hoping that by the 11th meeting of the committee next week, issues relating to the conference financing would be resolved. This will further make the committees work a lot easier then it is currently.

Finally in view of Plan.B a few adjustments have been made to the conference format in terms of the thrust and approach to major themes and sub themes. However the major objectives as outlined in the earlier flyer remains central to this conference.

John, at least I can appreciate the effort you and your Committee has done in the past months. There is so much to do and I guess the ball is in the court of individual state/institution collectively, to deliver the papers, so that you can finalise details of this event. Apsects of programming is important towards the success of the event.
I give my hat out to you and your hardworking colleagues.

have a good day

Thank you KSICOC. I know it is difficult to organise such activities in this country without funds. Our best wishes from the Northern part of the country are with you. Those who can attend will immensely benefit from understanding the wind of change that is sweeping our once beautiful country.

From experience it appears without knowing the sources and causes of changes happening in the external environment and its practical implications in PNG, we will sell our pride, uniqueness and heritage of our people to the dogs. We think we are the masters of our destination but the reality tells us a different story today. To cushion the impact of these changes it is our responsibility to understand its source, nature and attributes. That is the way foreward.

Those who can attend are encouraged to attend. This is an attempt to educate ourselves on how to maintain our position in the drivers seat.

Thankyou guys in Canberra and best wishes...
