In time Asians [Chinese, Vietnamese et al] will become the dominant force in our region and it will be good policy were we all to embrace this new reality.

Yes indeed, BV. In time the Asians will own PNG as well as our leaders without question so it would be a good idea if we just admit that we're going to become the slaves of the Asians and the source of all their resource wealth and economic development. We should just get used to that fact so that we learn to suffer in silence so the Asians won't beat us too much and can get away with paying the lowest possible price for our resources and our souls.

What we could do is to introduce Reality TV [Asian Style] and instead of voting them out, we vote them in, make them part of us so we can share in their largesse. Or. alternatively, we can wake up to ourselves and start to work to our own benefit instead of being slaves to the Asian economic reality.

With regard to your reality TV idea, it doesn't work that way. Just like in Australia the rural areas have provided the natural resource fuel for urban development (rural areas suffer), so too will PNG always be treated like a rural area of Australia - a place there for taking whatever is useful and leaving little to nothing behind.

On the other hand, the suggestion that we should stop being slaves to the Asians is a great idea in theory. However we PNGans like slowly being made into slaves. Very few of us (read postings thruout pngscape) would even stop the Asians from bribing us, much less taking away our resources.

We are living the reality - the reality of PNG being destroyed for other people's economic development.

dee your ignorant, australia with brazil contain 90% of the worlds iron-ore resources. it also has numerous other tyoes resources on its large continent. Australias prosperity comes from the resources in its own backyard not through PNG.

Annon,
Maybe you don't know that Australians also got gold from PNG. PNG was overlooked by Aussies almost a century just stealing gold. Review your history. Does Aussie cares about the existence of PNG, all they know is an other group of aborogines struggling to manage an island called PNG.

idiot,

have you never heard of places called ballarat, bendigo and the palmer river in far north queensland. These places to name a few, are significant in australia's history becuase of gold. Currently place names such as Kalgoorlie-Boulder should ring a bell. Australia has more than 65 operating gold mines and about 10 per cent of world economic gold resources and is ranked third after South Africa and USA. It is the world's third largest producer, after South Africa and USA and accounts for about 11 per cent of world output. Australia has become prosperous becuase of its own resources. Stop blaming australia for the miserable state PNG is in.

I think this calls for PNGNs to be responsible for them self the sooner the better or we be devastated in the future. We are a sovereign independent country and i hope our politicians come to terms with reality and do what is best for the country. The problem is that we needed open minded and educated people to be in the front row running this country. Not some jack arse who only thinks of himself and his family thinking that the country and its business and affairs are a family matter. Let Somare to know that his son will never become the Prime Minister ever again because we know what they have become.

Actually Australia was built "on the sheep's back".The early wealth to develop Australia came from large profits from growing wool and certainly not from PNG.
I am forever hearing about the wealth from PNG being used to build the Australian cities. You are so wrong.Of all the early gold miners who came to PNG,very few of them made their stake and many of them lost ,not only their shirts, but also their lives.
A few expats made some money from coffee but these very same people worked very hard to establish their plantations originally, growing vegetables to pay wages before the coffee began to bear and then living a very mean existence in bad years.Plantation were sold off to localgroups who agitated to be given loans, most of which were never repaid and very few PNG farmers have been very serious about getting in and planting up new areas for plantations.
I never see or hear about Asians getting in and donating heavily towards health and education or even suggesting and offering help to clean up our Law and Order problems.
Look North was the silliest thing we ever did.
