no problem rl!

So I am reading Fiery Cross right now and I always love Jamie. He feels horribly about what has happened to Roger and when he confronts Tryon about it, I love that scene. He calls Roger his 'son' and for the first time, I really think he feels that way - no just because of Bree - but because he cares for Roger. Jamie was trying to help keep violence from erupting but to no avail, his effort to do the right thing nearly cost Roger his life and Jamie knows and acknowledges it. I love that he admits his mistakes.

I love that about Jamie too, Tink. That was a big mistake to admit to. Jamie felt awful even though he really couldn't have foreseen such a horrible ordeal for Roger.

Finally, Jamie shows that he cares for Roger and calls him son. He'd been angry with Roger for a while because of Ian, but Jamie had to admit for messing up on that one too, when he sold Roger to the Iroquois. Oh boy.

For some reason I am finding it funny and fascinating that many of the folks who know (and practically worship) him call Jamie 'Himself'. It seems so endearing somehow... What are your thoughts about that?

It is endearing! By the time it is used fairly often in Fiery Cross, Jamie has reached a level of prominence ~ he is laird now of Fraser's Ridge ~ and the title Himself seems to signify this prominence. I like it.

I love it because they seem to use it as a term of respect and endearment. It just seems such an odd term in our current language that I find it interesting that they use it so often.

It's still a term that's in use today...I've heard himself or herself used to depict a significant other !
"It has always been forever, for me, Sassenach"

“Sassenach." He had called me that from the first; the Gaelic word for outlander, a stranger. An Englishman. First in jest, then in affection.”

One of the things I love is that he eats his greens and his fruit because Claire taught him to. It's one little thing that tells me how important she is to him, how much he values her. Even when they're separated - perhaps especially then - it's something to keep her close to him.

:agree: It's also very interesting to see the way that his example affects the residents at Lallybroch, and later at the Ridge - if Himself eats them with no harm, then the potatoes/tomatoes/greens, etc. are "safe" :flower:

very true, it shows how much influence both Himself and Herself have in improving the lives of all those they touch.

Belated, but just can't resist joining here. :D

I just would like to add that I really love him because he still keeps some innocence and shyness notwithstanding his maturity and experiences. Every moment I read his ears go pink or red regarding Claire, I just can't stop smiling. :flower:

Welcome, Mamiya. It's never ever too late to let folks know about how you feel about Jamie.
Your comment is so perfect. I feel exactly the same way. There is a gentleness about him and that innocence that makes he so very attractive. :thud:

In light of so many new members on OBC, I thought it might be a good time to bump this thread on our Jamie. :bagpipe: We have added MOBY since the last post, so... more to love!
