As you can probably tell Da Warpath has been transferred Tapatalk by Invisionfree. I am currently trying to change the look & feel of the forum to more closely match the old black & green but there is only so much that it appears I can do.

I hope everybody can live with the new platform. It should at least be a bit easier to use the site from a phone or tablet!

Feel free to ask questions and post feedback here, but please be aware I don't have much in the way of answers as yet. I'm afraid this was a one-way ticket that doesn't come with many options.

Hi,
So how do I sort the topics in this new layout? I want to sort topics after views and replies etc, but I seem to be unable to do so.

Please help!

At the top of the page there is a Discussions link. That will list all the latest active topics with the most recent at the top.

Damn that is bloody annoying! I really hope you find a way to repair at least part of the forum!

For one thing it would probably be a very good idea to remove the email notifications as default before people delete their accounts in frustration! (For those who want to stop ridiculous spam mails filling their inbox manually you klik the arrow down in the top right corner -> User control Panel -> board preferences -> edit notification options and uncheck a lot of boxes. Things like this is what really makes me dislike Tapatalk.

Is there any way to migrate the forum to a bb forum without loosing all the nice content? At least that should allow for more customization.

Hey Kurgan,

Do you want me to go digging into my archives and see if I can find all the original button images I did?

I may be able to reuse some stuff I already have.

Let me know if you need anything knocking up or do you have what you need but the software is fighting you?

Bidiot. :D

It was pretty much a case of "move it or lose it".

Very few people come here to post now though. Numbers of visitors have been going down for a couple of years.
I think forums are on their last gasp as everything is moving to social media like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. :(

Ah, I see; this's happened to another forum I used to frequent, and I'm sorry to see them both reduced to this....

Is this all related to reddit taking over some of the space that used to be dominated by forums?

There is so much history and great content on here, it would be such a shame if it can't be kept popular.

I think it is a combination of several things:

The big AoS vs T9A fight have made lots of people go to forums/facebook groups dedicated to one of the games which I think is a shame: I mostly use forums for painting and modeling inspiration and that is basically the same for both games. Tactics can be placed in different subforums and hopefully people have by now cooled enough down that they can behave civilized to each other again.

To some extend forums have been freeloading on image hosting sites thereby minimizing the data requirement and thus expenses for running a forum while maximizing traffic. Unfortunately this has meant that social medias have been able to out compete forums for many users since it is so much easier to share pictures here. Forums should really allow users to upload pictures directly if they want to get the users back but that is not something the local admin can take care of.

At the same time the dependencies on image hosting sites have made forums vulnerable to the insane blackmail attack made by photobucket. When that happened a lot of content was lost and that have made many people give up the forums.

That said forums do have a number of advantages that means that they are still worth fighting for and there are several hobby forums out there with plenty of trafic so it is possible to keep them alive.
-Forums enable much better backlog than social media.
-Forums makes it much easier to keep things separated so you can choose when to look at miniatures, when to look at tactics and when to look at pictures of your moms cat.
-Forums have this huge and rich history of old posts full of gold that it would be a real shame to loose
-add more yourself.

For me personally, I use Facebook for family and reddit for hobbies (gaming and esports in particular).

I have two 20k forums on a personal website that I keep running for nostalgia as it costs nothing to keep it running. There is no traffic on there any more, but I know its there. Lol.

You make some excellent points about images that I hadn't thought of.

It's a pain to keep a seperate record of images and do all the cropping and uploading required.

The kids these days they just wanna snap a pic and share with all the hosting invisible.

Hmm food for thought.

..and you can hardly blame people for choosing the simple solution. But the good news is that there is absolutely nothing stopping forum developers from making it equally simple to upload pictures on forums if they want to.

And speaking of good news: This discussion made me want to test if the new tapaforum at least allowed the work-around to make old photobucket pictures visible again so I went searching for non visible photobucket pictures and to my amazement I could not find any. I do not know it it is a short lived bug but it does seem that all the old photobucket pictures are right now visible again! :)
