Im trying to find out ( on other forum-sorry :( ) what a fifteen year old girl would wear in the 40s. I blackmailed ;) my daughter to come to a reenactment weekend with us. Now taking how much makeup and the dress style of today they have , it has got to be something she will agree to wear.

Hoping to go to Whitby with her in tow, only she did agree to just one day not two.
I told her how many boys her age took part in uniforms.

Firstly she picked a slinky black number but I advised her that it would not be quite suitable with young lads especially as they would be carrying weapons and we did not want any accidents.

Any ideas please,

Alex

Hi Alex Try looking on Google for 1940's Teenage American fashion, I believe they wore denim jeans and loose baggy sweaters. she would probably feel ok dressed in that style. Tom :) :D

Alex,

As 'teenagers' weren't invented in the UK until the 1950's I would imagine that a 15 year old girl would dress like a mini version of her mother with a slightly shorter skirt than an adult, and white ankle ankle socks!

Can we refrain from this kind of talk please.

Short skirts and socks!!!!!

Mary has photos of her mother at age of 16 and yes you are correct. A mini version of an adult.

This is a pic of my mother-in-law at about 16 years old taken at end of war. She said she looked older and used to be able to get onto the American bases for the dances.

Thanks for replies there a great help especially the photo.
So 16 years olds were not too much different then to now, with there sneaking out to places.
(other than the shirts are waist bands now)

I dont think Lacey will be overly impressed by the frockd though.
I never thought about the American version - but then it would look like today so Im not going to mention jeans as yet.
