Not much enthusiasm among the 10 riders gathered on a dry morning, but with a very cold strong NE wind - so Hellifield direction was suggested and adopted.
You could tell that Headmaster Harry and Head Girl Emily were both missing as our little group was constantly splitting and re-grouping.
After Bolton by Bowland I dropped back on the climb and was joined by Yvonne, Lesley and Chris Allen while the rest headed off to Hellifield at a fair clip.
We four took the second left turn up to the radio mast and sought refuge and a second breakfast by the woodburning fire in Gardenmakers. A little later we were joined by Geoff, Pete Bradford, Ian and Chris K who had ridden through Hellifield and Long Preston.
The coffee and food is really excellent here and the welcome accorded to cyclists is very warm. It is just a shame that it is only 10 miles from our start / finish point, so seldom visited by us.
Apparently Dave Hep. and Peter had stopped at the cafe in Hellifield and we didn't see them again.
The usual ride back to Spring Wood assisted by a tailwind left everyone feeling pleased that they had made the effort, even if it was our shortest ride for a long time. The company and banter was worth coming out for in itself.
Presumably normal service will be resumed next week.
Thanks Colin - another super report on the Wednesday ride - a fair number of your regulars have flown of to the Sun??? in Majorca but a spot of rain out there for them at the mo - but looking very tempting next week!
